Hmm their help pages say it's to 'verify' my account when it's new. But I've had my Amazon account & bank account for years & made frequent purchases. Wtf are they up to?

It's fine, it's to check a transaction can go through it will be credited back. Nothing to worry about.

Rather than posting here, get on live chat and speak to them!

They did the same thing to me! I’ve had an account for 11 years. Spent £162, and suddenly had £324 pending on my credit card as a pre-authorisarion Angry

I contacted them and was told they do it from time to time and I’d get it back. Thankfully, it was reversed before it went through as a full transaction, but they told me they couldn’t guarantee that.

Would have been very, very annoyed if it had put me over my credit limit and I incurred fees.

goldinthemtherestars · 20/11/2018 18:55

That is a scam. Contact your bank and stop the £1.00 from being taken. It happened to me. Companies running a scam try it on with various account holders to test if the £1.00 transaction goes through. If it does they will then take more. Stop the transaction via your bank and they can't take more.

I think that's all I had to do but if it's already gone through without you noticing report it to Amazon and request your £1.00 back.

Anyone else had this happen? More advice might be out there...

Why not go on Amazon chat and ask? They are usually really good at sorting things out

Bluntness100 · 20/11/2018 19:00

It's not a scam. Amazon do the one pound thing often. It's like a ore authorisation.

MongerTruffle · 20/11/2018 19:03

It’s not a scam. Many companies use it as an authorisation. Virtually all hotels do it. It’s done if you pay at the pump. It’s done when you order groceries online.

EggysMom · 20/11/2018 19:06

I noticed that Amazon had pre-auth'd £1 and then £120 (the price of the item) on my credit card the other day, but the £1 was then removed within 48 hours. They might have done it before and I never noticed quick enough before it disappeared routinely.

Theonewiththecat · 20/11/2018 19:10

Someone did this on both my mum and dads accounts (different ones) it was an Amazon transaction for £1, and neither of them use Amazon. They had to get cards blocked and all sorts. Maybe give the bank a ring or phone/live chat Amazon?

IWannaSeeHowItEnds · 20/11/2018 19:11

Amazon do it quite a lot, esp if you have
pre ordered playstation games. I think it's because they are delivered on the same day they are released and so Amazon are checking they will get their money.

PurpleCrazyHorse · 20/11/2018 19:17

Amazon do it fairly regularly on my daughter's pre-payment (GoHenry) card. I called GoHenry and they were really helpful and I confirmed with Amazon too. It was a legit Amazon thing to check the cards, it has always come back. I've also noticed it when I've updated card details on Amazon (so a new card with a different expiry date)

I would be worried if it's happened on a card that isn't stored on Amazon though.

danni0509 · 20/11/2018 19:18

I've been using amazon years now and they still do this to me from time to time. Take £1 and then separate transaction for the cost of whatever item I have bought.

radioband · 20/11/2018 19:20

Is it not when you order something that isn't released yet? I ordered an echo dot 3, it won't be dispatched for a few weeks and they've taken a £1, I'm waiting for them to take the rest.

BeFire · 20/11/2018 19:21

I've had £1 pending to Amazon for nearly 2 weeks now. They do it occasionally then it drops off.

Guiltypleasures001 · 20/11/2018 19:26

Tesco's do it to me several times a week, shopping fuel lunch every etc, Amazon have just started too

Tinklewinkle · 20/11/2018 19:30

I ordered some printer ink on our work Amazon account nearly 2 weeks ago and they did a random £1 transaction

It’s still showing in our pending transactions.

LunchBoxPolice · 20/11/2018 20:41

They've done it to me this week after ordering DS's Christmas presents.

Fluffyears · 20/11/2018 20:46

They fud it when I set up prime, it was held for 10 days then came back off.

BubblesBubblesBubbles · 20/11/2018 20:52

They do this to me every so often I normally live chat to make sure it’s actually them.

TheFuckfaceWhisperer · 20/11/2018 21:11

I have Hayu added to my Amazon Prime for £3.99 and every month £4.99 is missing from my account then when the £3.99 shows as being paid out the £1 appears back in my account
