I knew there was a reason I wanted to go back to being veggie!

It might have been a mistake, but I wouldn't take any chances.

Take it back for a refund with as much of the packaging and labelling as you can.

Sounds like something I make OP, but I’m way lazier. I put the pasta into the pot and a few mins before it’s cooked I add in the broccoli. No need to scoop it out first.

Same with chicken and bacon (I use pancetta): fry the chicken, when it’s almost done add in the pork. When that’s almost done add in garlic (I like mine not too fried), then creme fraiche, s&p. Saves scooping and extra dishes!

I also add chives and fresh Parmesan on mine (I use less creme fraiche), and frozen peas sometimes instead of broccoli. You know, when I’m feeling kerazy 🙄

Blimey! I definitely wouldn't be eating that. I agree that it does look like some sort of ink or dye. I've taken chicken back to Aldi before because it was on the turn when I opened it (that dodgy gassy smell) and they gave me a full refund, no questions asked.

HavelockVetinari · 20/11/2018 19:48

It's an ammonia burn - chicken from farms with extremely poor welfare standards often leave the hens with so little room to move around that they're stuck sitting in their own excrement, which eventually causes burns. Sad

I work in the food industry and would definitely say that it looks like the dye we use on waste meat. It looks more like an accidental splatter of dye than the covering we give meat that is unfit for human consumption but definitely return it and don't eat it.

Yeah that was earmarked for Kitekat.

ozymandiusking · 20/11/2018 20:48

Surely the plastic is next to the breast and the label that might contain any ink would be on the plastic and not next to the chicken.
Never the less I wouldn't one to cook this, and would take it back to Aldi.

PerverseConverse · 20/11/2018 21:10

Quick google taught me that they developed some kind of dye test to ascertain freshness. The dye shouldn't be next to the meat itself but could have leaked in this case.

Quite glad I'm veggie.

monkeywrench · 20/11/2018 21:10

Yes it does look like a splatter, and it is back in the fridge wrapped up in another plastic bag ready to go back tomorrow. Tbh they don't seem to give much of a shit in my local Aldi and give you a refund no questions asked normally.
