Since when did adjectives become "descriptors"?

And more to the point, why?

Is "adjective" not good enough?

Who says they have?

There was a trend a few years back to use less technical words when teaching grammar to primary age, but I think it has gone back again with the new curriculum. Certainly conjunctions are no longer 'joining words'.

So people in their 20s I guess might not know the 'correct' terminology (?), but younger than that they'll have to know it for Primary y6 SATs and English language GCSE.

Thanks for reply, that's interesting and I did wonder if it was anything to do with how grammar is taught these days. I raised it because I've noticed a few posts on here where "descriptor" has been used in place of "adjective" and in some cases instead of "word" even.

(Of course I know language evolves but I just think it's slightly sad when even the language of language changes - in my unimportant view - unnecessarily.)
