Oh hell! Can you help me with DD's Y6 enterprise project? Frothy drink related!

DD´s school is holding an ´enterpise´ event on Thursday. They were told to think of a potion they could sell, buying all the ingredients for a tenner.

DD thought of doing a Polyjuice Potion, and found a recipe online. We costed the ingredients and it all looked good. Her project was chosen for her group. Today, though, when we did a dry run we realised it is not good.

The recipe calls for limeade and sherbert. According to the recipe it should fizz up and make the drink stay frothy. It doesn´t do this. It just fizzes for a bit and sinks.

I am going to buy some whipped cream tomorrow to see if this helps. My idea is to have this mixed with the fizzy drink and then sprinkle on some sherbert at the last minute to make a nice effect.

Oviously, I want DD to feel proud of her project. Has anyone got any good ideas about how to make it work?

Please, you have to know about froth!

Can you use egg whites of some kind? You can buy a carton of egg whites, so there's no messing around cracking eggs.

Ice-cream in something fizzy?

Mentoes and coke are meant to be quite dramatic!

Invisimamma · 19/11/2018 20:39

Kool aid?
Or add the sherbet just as it is served?

ThanksItHasPockets · 19/11/2018 20:41

Is it an American recipe? ‘Sherbet’ in America usually means something like sorbet, not our powdered version.

DropZoneOne · 19/11/2018 21:00

Hmm, the few recipes I've read all say the froth is instant so to make and serve straight away.

Do you know anyone with a mini candyfloss machine? Make up cup size candyflosses and top each glass with it as you serve - the candyfloss dissolves jnto the drink. Not frothy but looks really good Grin

Meringue might work in the same way?

Or see if you can get your hands on a whipping cream siphon and make up a lemon sugar "foam" to pipe on top?

I think you may need full sugar fizzy drinks rather than sugar free ?

NannyR · 19/11/2018 21:08

My grandma used to put ice cream in fizzy drinks for us. It went really frothy and creamy.

I was going to suggest ice cream too. You could turn some cream soda green with a bit of food colouring and pour it over vanilla ice cream. Maybe a add some green or brown sprinkles to the top for the added yuck.
Some twirly straws would be nice for serving.

YippieKayakOtherBuckets · 19/11/2018 21:15

Yes, sorry OP - your mistake was to use powdered sherbert. The recipe means lime sorbet, basically.

Even sorbet won’t keep fizzing indefinitely, though. I would sprinkle popping candy over the top as you serve.

WinkyisbackontheButterBeer · 19/11/2018 21:15

Something like this?

You could do sugar free coke with ice cream and call it butterbeer too.

Popping candy could do something fun?

margaritasbythesea · 19/11/2018 22:02

Ah! Ok. I will explain to the teacher and ask if it is possible to use a fridge somewhere. I guess a cool bag with an icepack might keep it cold enough.

I looked up that coke and mentoes thing. For heaven´s sake woman! They would hound me off the PTA.

Thanks for your ideas. I appreciate your help.
