When did your dc finally speak if they had a speech delay

I'm so worried about my DS. He's 2 next month and still only says a handful of words. He's babbling a lot but none of it really makes sense. The odd hello, sticker, mama, Dada, baby mixed in.

He does have glue ear and is awaiting for the tests to be redone in a couple of months to see if it's cleared.

I'm worried he's never going to talk. We've upped his nursery to 3 mornings a week now as he's constantly babbling when he comes home.

I've taken him to a private speech therapist and we've got things to work on but not sure what else I can do to help him?

Any advice would be really appreciated. I'm worried he's never going to talk at this rate.

My S had only 2 words by his 2nd birthday. I took him to the S&L drop in session and they referred us for a workshop. 3 months later he now has 50 words and is saying a new one every day. Some children take longer than others :)

I think once he has the grommets you should see much more progress, so yes push for that.

Yes I'd definitely push if I knew what I know now , it's a quick op, out same day - big difference

My DS is 21 months and only just started saying a few words. I just looked on the internet and it says he should be saying between 20-50 words. He's only saying about 5 words. I'm thinking/ hoping he'll talk in his own time. Something I'll keep an eye on now though.

While it’s definitely worth getting extra support if you can, I wouldn’t really worry unless they don’t seem to understand you, e.g if you say “time to go to nursery” do they look to the door etc.

Signing to him as you speak might help if he is having difficulty hearing. Really important they get exposed to grammar and feelings vocab (even if not speaking at all) so worth pushing for hearing investigations/grommets. In meantime, lots of signing with speech.

My son had very little words at 2, I was so concerned. He want from a few single words to sentences overnight when he was 2.5

Signing is awesome. Ds picks up new signs every day - today's new words are 'bubbles' and 'green'. It has eased his frustrations massively. Mr Tumble is a good place to start with that!
