Random question: How does the government know where to send your 1st National Insurance card?

Most boring question ever, but how does the Government / Inland Revenue know where to send out a person's first National Insurance card?

DSS has been living with us full time for a number of years now, registered with us for school/dr's etc.

I know his mum used to claim CB for him, but she took him off her claim when he moved to living with us full time. We've never claimed any CB for him as DH is a higher rate taxpayer.

Where does the contact info for the NI number come from? Google is not helping me out!

Claim child benefit but opt out of payment? That's what we do. Otherwise I think they have to apply for it

If it doesn't arrive, just ask for it ... www.gov.uk/government/organisations/hm-revenue-customs/contact/national-insurance-numbers

You don’t get a card anymore. DD just received a letter in the post a few weeks before her 16th. The number is on there and they just to tell you to keep the letter safe.

Ah yes the card was phased out years ago so it's just a letter you get
