Lump on gum beside tooth (pic)

Posting here for traffic in the hope of swift response to calm DD down.

She has a rather big lump on her gum, which hopefully you can see on the attached pic. It actually looks like 2 small lumps, with a dark centre? She said it doesn’t hurt, but is panicking like mad. I’ve sent her down to brush her teeth, and she’s promptly vomitted Sad

I’ve had a quick google and think maybe a gum abcess but I’m not too sure.

JUSt to clarify, it’s not the dark area of her gum, it’s the pink protruding but right at the back.

Looks like a tooth abscess, you will need to make an appointment at the dentist for antibiotics.

ISpeakJive · 18/11/2018 20:26

How old’s your DD? Could it be her wisdom tooth causing that lump?

Or could be an abscess.

Dentist needs to have a look.

Thanks guys, she’s 11 and sitting crying silently in her room as she doesn’t want to miss school tomorrow.

I initially thought wisdom tooth as it looks just like 2 teeth pushing up, but then after googling I thought abscess! I know nothing about teeth...

Is it a ‘phone dentist first thing and get her in same day’ emergency type thing?

No, not if it isn't bothering her (apart from the anxiety bless her)

picklemepopcorn · 18/11/2018 20:36

It could be a tooth coming through, or an abscess. Give it time and see what happens.

FruitCider · 18/11/2018 21:01

Almost certain that's a dental abscess, I would take her to the dentist...

Tippexy · 18/11/2018 21:02

Is it terrible that I’d pop it?!

jq28 · 18/11/2018 21:05

Looks like a tooth coming through

buggerthebotox · 18/11/2018 21:07

A gumboil?

raffle · 18/11/2018 21:11

I had one of those once...I pressed it with my finger and it burst. It tasted foul Envy NE

HastingsLikeTheBattle · 18/11/2018 21:15

raffle me too Envy - not envy. Sadly I didn't get a pic of mine so can't compare.

I'll be phoning the dentist in the morning and try to get her seen. Thanks all Flowers

It suprise me how little people know about their own mouth.
It's an abscess related to the Lower Right E or second baby molar. The tooth requires extraction not antibiotics. The tooth probably has or had a cavity in it.

HastingsLikeTheBattle · 19/11/2018 13:54

Maxy I freely admit teeth is not one of my specialities.

But you're right in 2 out of 3 respects, it is an abscess, does not extraction but she also has antibiotics.

Many thanks to all those who posted last night. DD is so anxious that the dentist has referred her for sedation, which should be a couple of weeks (faster than I expected) but glad it's sorted!

HastingsLikeTheBattle · 19/11/2018 14:03

Sorry, does need extraction!

ZeroFuchsGiven · 19/11/2018 14:06

Maxy17

I'm pretty sure they will not extract the tooth until antibiotics have been prescribed and the infection has cleared.

HastingsLikeTheBattle · 19/11/2018 14:41

Yup Zero that's what he said Smile

I had one that I ignored. It burst on a flight. Not pleasant. Anyway, continued to ignore it and eventually lost the tooth.
At least she's not in pain. Flowers
