Do you ever get your own age wrong?

I will be 47 tomorrow, for the last few weeks I have been utterly convinced that I will be 48.

I had to actually sit and work it out. Was both pleased at being a bit younger than I thought and appalled that I'm clearly going batty :)

I'm going to end up as a 76 year old proudly announcing to all and sundry that "I'm 92 you know!"

I nearly told someone that I was ten the other day. Err... no.

KeepingTheWormsQuiet · 18/11/2018 17:20

I volunteer for a charity and I interview people. My first question is usually "how old are you?". It's amazing how many people really have to think about it or answer wrongly at first.

pinkpantsrock · 18/11/2018 17:22

All the time, i'm 34 and i perm think i'm 33 or 32. I have to try and work it out. Age is just a number

JockTamsonsBairns · 18/11/2018 17:23

Yes. I often genuinely forget how old i am. If I'm ever asked, I need to think momentarily, before I say I'm 45. I think part of it is that I don't feel 45, so it comes as some surprise when I have to say it, iyswim!

BertramKibbler · 18/11/2018 17:24

Yes, I think my age just isn’t that significant to me now. It’s not like when I was a child and every birthday was exciting!

Cocolepew · 18/11/2018 17:24

All the time. I turned 50 a couple of weeks ago so can remember that.

BendydickCuminsnatch · 18/11/2018 17:24

Yep! I turned 29 on a Friday and for most of the last year I thought I was 27.

YippeeKayakOtherBuckets · 18/11/2018 17:25

Yep. I’m constantly confused about whether I’m 38 or 39.

(I’m 38 for a few more weeks yet).

PowerhouseOfTheCell · 18/11/2018 17:26

Yes! I got ID'd once at sainsbury's and whilst the woman was checking it she asked the routine 'are you over 18?' and I was so flustered I kind of just yelled NO. I was actually 20 and we both just gave each other this face Confused

mypoosmellsofroses · 18/11/2018 17:27

Heartening to know it's not just me and it's normal (unless we are all equally batty!) Grin

Yes all the time, I have to work it out.
If you asked me my date of birth I would have no problem, I just haven't kept track of my actual age for about 20 years!

ShatnersBassoon · 18/11/2018 17:28

I have to do the maths to get it spot on. I know which decade I'm in.

kalinkafoxtrot45 · 18/11/2018 17:28

I have to think about it. Still 25 in my head!

NotUmbongoUnchained · 18/11/2018 17:28

I think when you get past 21 it doesn’t really matter anymore.
I’ve been telling people for ages I’m 25.
Husband very kindly reminded me im 28.

WomanOfTime · 18/11/2018 17:29

Yes. I keep accidentally telling people I'm 30. I'm not anymore. But I did that from 28 or so. Maybe I just like rounding? Grin

Floralnomad · 18/11/2018 17:30

I always have to think about it , it’s easier to say early 50s and not bother to work it out . Age is simply insignificant to me .

JellieEllie · 18/11/2018 17:30

@KeepingTheWormsQuiet I thought it wasn't the done thing to be asked your age during a job interview? It's classed as discrimination isn't it? Just curious as I could be wrong.

I usually forget my age also I have to take my birthdate away from the current year to work it out at times.

Switcherpoo · 18/11/2018 17:31

Yes, often. I had to work it out and had just got my head around it. Then went to a private hospital appointment. It had a DOB box then Age next to it. All pre printed. It had be 1 year older and I couldn't fucking work out who was wrong!

Turns out they round up if your birthday is within 1 month of the appointment. Fuckers.

FrazzyAndFrumpled · 18/11/2018 17:31

Yes, always forgetting here. I’m usually only +/- 1 year though.

fanomoninon · 18/11/2018 17:33

Yes. In fact my sister was asking me yesterday and I simply couldn't work it out! I am mid to late 40s, but a little hazy beyond that...

AwdBovril · 18/11/2018 17:34

I've done this quite a lot of times. I could blame it on old age... but that would be a lie. Especially seeing as I've been doing it since I was a teenager.

seanceinterrupted · 18/11/2018 17:39

I not only get my age wrong, yesterday I said I was the boys' dad. I didn't even notice my error until it was pointed out to me (I'm their mum).
