Can anyone identify this object?

Found in a pre-loved shop in Biggleswade, obviously home made, it seems to be on an Egyptian theme with the lovely Scarab in the middle, not sure what it is - could be just ornamental or maybe was a pendant before the ring of metal was stuck on the bottom to make it stand up?

Size: about 4 inches square.

Any ideas?

There's a lot of work in that for a homemade/craft piece - it's either cast/pressed or repoussé work then all those stones have been set. Is it pewter or silver? Any hallmarks?

Looks to me as though it's a small dish.

That's so pretty! Looks like a bowl for trinkets.

Is the ring of metal to hang it on the wall? It's very pretty, whatever its purpose.

The ring on the bottom suggests to me that it was possibly attached to something else originally maybe ?

wowfudge · 18/11/2018 12:46

The ring appears to be a base for it to stand on.

No hallmarks, looks like stainless steel or tin. Not a dish as the stones are too proud of the metalwork, the ring of metal is to make it stand up I think. There is one hole in the back that's been drilled into it as if someone wanted to make it a pendant but changed their mind. Truly a dish of mystery!

It's very pretty, and carefully made. Are they moonstones and maybe malachite around the scarab?
It's got a bit of an Indian look to me. Perhaps a small dish for offerings to a family household shrine. Just the right size for a little cake or slice of fruit.
