Can anyone help me with this guitar?

guitar

dd1 has sent me a link, this is the guitar she wants.

BUT, she needs an acoustic guitar, which maybe, at some point in the future, she might plug in to an amp, but primarily she needs an acoustic guitar.

Is this suitable? I can't tell!

Yep. That's fine. Works as an acoustic but can be plugged in to an amp. Doesn't have to be though (which I think is what you're wondering.)

Is it suitable but if she’s not planning on using an amp at any time in the future (and it’s only a maybe at this point) DD2 says she’d recommend spending the money on an acoustic only guitar.

How old is your DD and can she already play?

StillMedusa · 17/11/2018 21:34

Does she already play? What sort of music does she play (or want to)
Personally I'd go for one with a cutaway ..easier to reach the higher frets

Gearformusic guitars aren't bad for the money (I have one which I keep in school to play for my kids) but if she is serious, something like a yamaha APX600 is very nice indeed (I have the 500, the previous model) as it has a slim body and neck and is easy to get your hands around.

(My Ds1 does gigs with his so it's pretty robust as well!)

she is 13, she uses dh's guitar a lot and is self taught, and can play quite a few things.

I cannot see when she would use the amp, but in theory it is possible, as there is a band at church, and if she got good enough and played with them, it would be useful to plug in to the sound system.

she really wants this one because

  1. it is black
  2. it is slightly smaller than a full size, and so it would be easy to take places (she camps a lot with scouts etc)
  3. it is black
  4. it looks cool
  5. it has a case and tuner (which she already has on her phone) and spare strings - she is a sucker for a 'package'

you can see where this is going!

I would love to take her into a shop and listen to the guitar, dh and I both mess around on guitars but I don't know anything about electric, LegArmpits is right, I was worried you couldn't use it as an acoustic.

she plays in a brass band, so she is quite musical, but self taught on guitar (and on ukulele!)

the price on this one is about right for what we want to spend (it's £65)

As she’s 13 and it’s what she really wants then I’d get it for her. She seems to know what she wants.

MaitlandGirl - I'm kind of leaning that way, if I talk her into something I think is better, I think she will always regret not getting her beautiful black guitar.

The biggest problem I have is that she needs a whole stack of stuff for a massive trip next year, and Christmas was supposed to be for getting some of that, and this would be very much her main present, with not much else to spare.

I think I need to chat to her again.

Thanks for all you help everyone
