Why would half my tooth have come out ?

I’ve spoken to 111 who said as it’s not at all painful or bleeding I’ve just to wait until Monday and possibly someone will see me , suggested I buy a temporary filling meantime .

It’s my lower right back molar, right before my wisdom tooth, has had a filling for a good 15-20 years . Eating tonight and realised half my tooth was also there ... does look like it’s damaged/rotten but hard to tell as the filling itself is massive.

Has a wisdom tooth growing beside it that’s also decayed and needs removed , but dentist said they’d hold off on that as it’s very badly impacted and would need surgical extrication under GA.

Have already lost two other wisdom teeth and a upper right molar due to wisdom teeth issues ..

I’m worried as I’ve had depression a long time and neglected dental hygiene - now worried I’m going to lose all my teeth Blush.. hopefully if I do they’re all as painless as this !!

They just do. The 4 prongs that held the filling in, one or 2 of the corners get weak & they snap off. I had one break like this many yrs ago, I never bothered to replace it (dentists moan, but no problems yet). I have some others that may go the same way some day (dentist says).

Are you in pain?

It’s slightly achey but nothing horrendous , I’ve got period pain at the moment and that’s a hundred times worse tbh . How long would a temporary filling last do you think ? I could probably pick one up on Monday morning .

Fillings don’t last forever. They will eventually fall out and sometimes they take a bit of the tooth with them.

temp filling can last 2 days or 2 months. I think the dentists reckon no more than 7 days typically

I have generally healthy teeth but a few years ago half a back tooth fell off where it had been filled. I was so freaked out! But it was fine, the dentist reconstructed it and it's caused no further problems. No fun though, hope you get it sorted.

I broke the two front prongs of a back tooth in Cuba last year on holiday. I cried like a baby thinking they’d remove my tooth. I got back, and they built up my broken tooth, so now it’s a whole tooth and it’s fine.

Mine broke in a similar way about a year ago.... not given me any trouble actually so I'm just leaving it!

Mine broke apart and actually I had tooth decay that was too far gone. So they removed the tooth. I had to go for a surgical extraction though as the tooth was just crumbling.

I would thoroughly now tell my younger self off for avoiding the dentist. I could have avoided this shit.

Go and see the dentist
