Found a lump and terrified

A couple of weeks ago I found a lump in one of my boobs. I noticed it as my boob was really sore - I'm not sure if that was anything to do with the lump. It's not sore now but the lump is still there. I've booked a GP appointment but it isn't for over a week. I'm so worried about it, is it normal to feel so scared about something that is probably nothing?

Of course it's normal to be concerned. Non cancerous lumps are also normal, so try to put it out of your mind until you see the doc.

Try not to worry, nothing much will change, within the next few days.
It could very easily be a cyst.🌸

Oh you poor thing, how scary.

I'll be here thinking positive thoughts with you, it could be nothing yet. Thanks

I was the same when I found a lump, so stressed. My GP referred me to the local hospital within 2 weeks. The hospital did all the tests in one day (I called it healthcare orienteering... basically moving between departments collecting and depositing slips of paper as tests were done) and at the end i was sent back with good news.

So fingers crossed it's all ok, there's lots of innocent reasons you could have a lump.

I used to work at a breast clinic.
Everyone feels scared, it's totally normal, but try not to let it get to you too much. Unfortunately, waiting around is a big part of the process and you could drive yourself crazy worrying.
Take some deep breaths, make a list of some things to keep you busy between now and your appointment, and take each day one step at a time.
The amount of patients who'd say "it wasn't sore at first but now it feels like a bruise..." because they'd been prodding and poking at it since they found it and had made a benign lump really sore was pretty high!
Sending you lots of positivity for the next few weeks...

(KittyKarate, 'health care orienteering' is an ace way to describe it! 😁)

I have had several lumps and now I don't worry nearly as much as I used to, when I find one. I do get them checked and they have so far just been shown to be normal tissue (but lumpy). One consultant told me that nothing in the breast changes quickly, and that made me feel better about the waiting around. Of course it is worth checking, but the vast majority of lumps seen at the breast clinic are non-cancerous (someone at the clinic told me that as well!).

It's quite normal to be scared if you find a lump, even though it's very likely that it'll be something harmless.

I had one earlier this year, the GP was great, referred me to the breast clinic but reassured me it was probably nothing to worry about. Appointment came through on a date I was away, so there ended up being a longer wait to see them. I spent the whole time trying not to panic, but of course feeling terrified.

Anyway for me, by the time I got to the hospital appointment it had disappeared! Apparently it was cyclical breast changes - I lost some weight this year so now I can notice these lumps that come and go through my cycle. Sometimes they are sore, but they normally appear around ovulation and disappear by the end of my period.

Good luck, try not to panic.
