Cast iron frying pan

Can anyone recommend one?
I've been reading about the dangers of non stick for the last few years and they don't last
I had a cast iron frying pan years ago but I must have not cared for it properly as it went rusty
This looks amazing but I would struggle to pay that much. I guess I could consider it an investment

Following - just to see if anyone knows how you SHOULD care for a cast iron pan (mine is languishing in the cupboard as im scared of using it and it going rusty)

Op those ones look great if expensive! so im also interested to know if they are any good!

I have had Le Creuset ones in different sizes for years and they are still beautiful. Almost daily use. I give them a quick wash soon after using them when the pan is still warm and everything comes off easily. Have burnt food a couple of times and after an overnight soak they are as good as new. If you use a high heat oil like rice bran or macadamia nothing sticks.

I have lodge cast iron pans. Nothing sticks ever.

When you first buy a cast iron pan lightly coat with veggie oil ( not olive oil) and stick in the oven upside down on a low heat for a few hours. Thats it seasoned.

Never Ever use soap on your cast iron, wash with hot water only. It takes quite a bit of using to become really really non stick. If I fry bacon I let the fat sit in the pan over night before cleaning it. Mostly only wipe it out with paper towels but if I have to wash it cos Ive done a sauce or something messy then just hot water I dry it immediately then wipe a bit oil round it.

Its the most non stick pan Ive ever come across now. I love my cast iron

Oh mine are the black ones, not the pretty enameled ones

The one I linked is all one piece so it could go in the oven
Do yours have wooden handles?

I would not recommend buying le Creuset non stick pans, I have them and they look great, lovely quality etc, but stuff sticks to them immediately when you cook. Perhaps I'm doing something wrong, but I find them a bit of a nightmare

The lodge ones look good value

Netherton foundry do amazing cast and spun iron pans, I have a ridiculously large amount of them, lighter then lodge and made in the uk

WorldParty · 17/11/2018 18:25

Sroket
Do you have the spun iron or cast iron pan?

I have lots of both! The heavy stuff they have like the slow cooker and some others are cast. For frying pans they're spun, makes them thinner and lighter to carry and I've had no problems with stick when seasoned. These are the ones are have that are spun, saucepans, frying pans and a wok.
I have some lodge too but my go to grab when cooking is the Netherton

Your pans look wonderful
I was thinking I should go for the oven proof so I can re season it if necessary
Your handles look good though and I want it as a frying pan so perhaps oven proof is not necessary?

You can use a rusty pan. It won't hurt you. Over time the rust will flake off & it can look great again.

Sroket · 17/11/2018 20:28

The handles are removable just need a screwdriveer so you can take them off or leave them on! I take them off when I season.

WorldParty · 18/11/2018 16:26

Thanks for you help Sroket
I've ordered one
