Ideas for a fugly kitchen before Xmas?

It’s not bad, it’s not great. It’s that sort of generic pale wood effect 90s mdf and black laminate / granite painted white and blue with naff windows and a mish mash of furniture. There’s no time to paint it. It’s a fairly decent but poorly organised space. I’m clearing out the clutter and scrubbing everything. I’m going to take down some mouldy blinds and wash the windows.

Any ideas to make it look a little more chic?!

Get that stick on stuff for the counters in a lighter colour as a temporary solution.

And yes, show us a photo!

Cabinets themselves can't really be painted since they're MDF. How about new knobs? I've seen people using some kind of contact vinyl on worktops. You could paint tiles too.

We were renting last year with a similar kitchen. Soft fairy lights around the top of the wall units that carried around the coving at tops of the door frames made the place feel festive and cosy.
Giving the place a good a good scrub will help too and decluttering will make you feel better.
Remember it’s a Home and the people that make Christmas lovely not fancy worktops and cabinets!

yy to Biscusting re decluttering. My kitchen feels a whole lot better since I decluttered so I can actually put things away rather than being always out on the worktops. Those little organiser things inside cabinets are great.

Thanks everyone! I’ve spent the day decluttering and cleaning and yes, it feels a whole bunch better. It’s the children’s crafts that have taken the longest today but a huge dent has been made, windows washed, sills cleared and cleaned, mouldy blinds gone, weird replacement light bulbs ordered and I’m on to cleaning the oven and clearing out cupboards tomorrow.

You’re so right about the people - as long as we have seats and foods and drinks (and low lights Wink), it will be fine. Thank you for the reality check Grin I love the idea of fairy lights, also thinking I’m going to buy some trendy table linens and look out for candle sticks and little decorations in charity shops.

Thanks everyone!
