How do you get your quilt inside the cover?

I love fresh bed clothes.
The smell, the texture, literally everything about them.

I don't mind stripping the bed or washing the linen or drying it.

I am more than capable of putting the sheet on and the pillow cases, but the duvet cover...

The BASTARD duvet cover.

It ends up lumpy, one corner won't go in properly, one side is too bunched up.

I shake and shake the cover but it just doesn't want to co-operate.

I've spent many a night fighting with the fucking thing (and LOSING!)
Currently, I turn the duvet cover inside out grabbing the corners, I pick up the quilt and flip it the right way and then shake.

Are there any other ways of doing it? Am I missing a trick somewhere?

I shove the quilt in and put hair bobbles
On each corner while I mess with the rest... it's a super king so takes some effort!

"Bumphled" is a word, I first saw it in the Guardian about 10 years ago.

PuppyMonkey · 16/11/2018 20:17

ha ha, I knew someone would suggest the bastard buritto method. Good luck with that, OP. Especially if you have a thick duvet.

@DisgraceToTheYChromosome Grin did I spell it right?

ScreamingValenta · 16/11/2018 20:24

I kind of ravel up each top corner of the cover and put the corresponding corners of the duvet into them, and then pull the duvet down.

PiggeryPorcombe · 16/11/2018 20:27

Cleaner here. I change up to 12 king sized beds a day. I use the inside out method.

100Pumpkins · 16/11/2018 20:27

The key is getting the corners in and shaking

PiggeryPorcombe · 16/11/2018 20:29

Ok so I watched the video and that’s how I do it. Who knew it had a name Grin

BulletWithABun · 16/11/2018 20:30

I don't do any of the turning inside out or burrito stuff and it takes me under a minute with a king sized feather duvet.

Lay duvet cover on the bed the right way round.

Take one top corner of duvet and put it inside cover so its up in the correct corner. Do same with other top corner.

Holding duvet in place, pull the rest of the cover down over the duvet to the bottom.

Fit the bottom corners into their right places. Do up the buttons.

Grab both bottom corners, one in each hand (cover and duvet. Shake lots. Done.

GrannyHaddock · 16/11/2018 20:55

I've tried the rolling up method before, but it didn't work for me, and I reverted to the "into the corners and pull down" technique. The you tubers I've seen demonstrating are rolling up a much thinner duvet than ours, maybe that's the difference.

mommybear1 · 16/11/2018 21:00

Pegs OP - put the top corners in and peg them, pull the sides down peg the bottom corners, button and then flap the duvet till your happy it's plumpt and then remove the pegs - mission complete.

Butteredghost · 16/11/2018 21:58

I don't do it because it's to hard. I wash sheets once a week, I wash duvet cover once a year.

Cleanermaidcook · 16/11/2018 22:00

Burrito method, super king size, no problems, it's ace!

HawkeyeInConfusion · 16/11/2018 22:26

I'm another one who discovered the burrito method on here and had her life changed.

WhoTookTheCookie · 16/11/2018 23:21

Ok.

The burrito method is revolutionary.

I cannot believe how easy that was!! Took 5 minutes and I have a lovely, smooth, unbundled duvet.

Thank you so much Grin

You are most welcome Who.

It is now your solemn duty to watch out for another thread like this in a few months and pay it forward. Grin

ScreamingValenta · 16/11/2018 23:57

I will be trying this!

AGHHHH · 17/11/2018 03:35

With great difficulty.

thatmustbenigelwiththebrie · 17/11/2018 04:17

I crawl inside. It's very hot but it works.

WhoTookTheCookie · 17/11/2018 08:56

@NonaGrey If you hear of a total lunatic going round the streets screaming 'Burrito Method!!!' at people in a deprived manner.... you know who it is Grin

I do a variety of methods.

Shaking doesn'twork with the superking - I'm too short even if I stand on the bed and ir makes my arms ache.

Burrito is too much faff.

Crawling inside is OK but has a tendency to be enraging and then you're stuck with a duvet on your head and are liable to rip the opening Blush

I used to have a method where I folded the duvet into 8ths and then crawled in and lined up one corner then unfolded.

Most recently I just shove it in and then find the corners/middles of sides and hold together to shake.

Now if anyone has tips for keeping the duvet in the cover nicely I'm all ears. And the sheet nicely on the bed, I'm forever redoing the corners and middles of sides and it's a bastard now DS2's bedside cot is there especially as it doesn't clip to the bed properly so it's surrounded by heavy boxes.

didireallysaythat · 17/11/2018 09:21

Does the burrito method work when the opening is only about 1/3 of the width of the case?

I hate duvet cases with narrow openings - I think I might have to open up packages in shops to stop me buying them.... They never tell you on the packaging. I know I should get the sewing machine out and fix them....

GrannyHaddock · 17/11/2018 09:56

A woman recently invented a duvet cover with a zipper all round. Where have they got to?

NonaGrey · 17/11/2018 10:13

Does the burrito method work when the opening is only about 1/3 of the width of the case?

Nope, it works fine with wide openings too.
