I'm leaving in 12 hours, I'm rewashing all of my clothes. I've washed the suitcase with vinegar and water but it still smells how do I get the stink out?

Also does anyone want my bastard cat

Bicarbonate of soda absorbs just about any smell

Are you near a Pets at Home? They do a spray which does the trick.

Good luck.

Leg it to the shops and buy a new one

HazelBite · 16/11/2018 14:11

This happened to me, after all sorts of "treatments" I still couldn't get the smell out. DH left it open in the garage for about 4 months in the hope that the stink would gradually fade, it didn't, and it went to the local tip.
A real shame, but I could have never put my clothes in it again without them picking up the smell.

Should I re wet the inside of my suitcase and use bicarb or just pour it on the dry inside?

I don't have time to get to the shops to get a new suitcase. Bastard bloody cat!! I can get one once I'm away I just need to get it unstinked enough to get there! Did I mention my cat is a bastard?

Fucking cats. I think one of ours wees on things just because he knows it pisses us off.

There's a cleaning liquid called Simple Solution (on Amazon and probably elsewhere) for cat wee which works if you use it early and really saturate it. But this is more for future reference if you don't have time to shop.

Bicarb is probably your best DIY remedy. I would just rub it all over the inside of your dry suitcase. You could wet the bicarb into a paste if you want. Washing powder with enzymes is said to work, but I don't see how you can do a thorough job with it on a suitcase, and you probably don't want to be travelling with a wet suitcase.

Seal all your stuff into double binbags so it won't pick up the smell (or the bicarb!).

Sadly I think that ultimately you will need to bin this suitcase and get another. They will probably sell (overpriced) ones at the airport, or maybe you can get one at your destination if the smell is doing your head in.

You'll have to take your luggage in bin bags, I'm afraid.

PhilomenaButterfly · 16/11/2018 14:29

Bicarb. And no, you can keep your bastard cat. 😂

MilkTwoSugarsThanks · 16/11/2018 14:31

I think your cat doesn't want you to go away. Is that not quite sweet? He loves you!

eddiemairswife · 16/11/2018 14:36

Yes, it's a bit like a mother giving an anxious child something of hers to take to school. He wants to reassure you that he'll be thinking of you while you are away.

She has been and got simple solution extreme, I've soaked the lining of suitcase and poured loads into the washing machine and put clothes on a cold wash. If that doesn't work I am going to have to chuck the clothes away aren't I Sad luckily he or she (I'm not sure which one it was neither look remotely guilty) has managed to wee on my underwear and my favourite pair of yoga pants. The rest is all ok though I'm rewashing for good measure.

This is not how I want to spend my last day at home!
