If you have a cleaner, what was your first ‘meeting’/getting a quote like? What made you decide to employ them?

As the title really! When your cleaner came over to give you a quote etc. what did that meeting look like? Did you ask the questions or did they? What made you decide to employ them?

I think I just showed her round, said how long I would like her in for and what I would like doing. She seemed nice so I gave her a key.

That was 5 years ago and I've seen her no more than once a year.

My cleaner was recommended to me by a friend. I rang her and she popped round for a chat and look around.

I already knew what she charged because of my friend. Since she started with me (about 3 years ago) I have recommended her to 3 other people who she now also cleans for.

It’s the way it works round these parts.

Mine was recommended by a friend. They came round, we had a chat, I showed them the house and they cleaned it. That was 6 years ago. They are good friends now.

Literally had a cleaner come out to quote today.

She came over, asked what we wanted, looked around and then told us it would be £15 an hour for a 3 hour deep clean, and then the same price for a 2 hour clean once a month.

She was nice and that’s about average to pay here, so she’s coming next month :)

Bloodybridget · 16/11/2018 20:36

Gosh, £15 an hour, that's more than we pay (inner London).

Our cleaner was already cleaning for friends. She came round and said she could do what we wanted in three hours every fortnight.

Giveyourheadawiggle · 17/11/2018 11:53

Thanks for the replies! I’ve started my own cleaning business and got meeting with my first potential customer this week. Just trying to get things right! Out of curiosity, what does your cleaner do and how much do you pay?

I’m a cleaner the one thing I do is get them to sign something to say you have their key. It is then in my charge. I explain where it lives in my house and how it is labelled. I then explain that when I stop cleaning they have to sign another piece of paper to say I have given it back. It covers you.

I also do a walk round. Right down what they want. When I go back to be given the key I show them the sheet. They keep that. And then everyone knows what ur supposed to be doing. No Miss understandings.

I also text the day before and ask if they want anything extra done. They then have chance to tell y so u don’t get there and find a list of things u may need to bring something different for.
It also reminds them that you are coming so they don’t have the excuse not to pay you.

I also take my own hoover etc. I don’t want to be responsible for breaking anything.

Stephisaur · 17/11/2018 13:22

@bloodybridget don’t underestimate how much my house needs cleaning 😂

It’d be £12/hour if it was weekly/fortnightly apparently.

Bloodybridget · 17/11/2018 14:13

Ha! Well I'm glad your cleaner is getting good money, Stephisaur!

Bloodybridget · 17/11/2018 14:20

Our cleaner gets £40 for three hours. She vacuums and mops the kitchen and bathroom floors and painted wood stairs, and just vacuums all the rest, four bedrooms, two large receps, one smaller room used as a studio, carpeted stairs. Cleans cooker, sinks and basins, two loos, one bath, one shower. A bit of dusting but she certainly doesn't dust every surface. Gosh she is wonderful! And a very nice woman. We are very tidy and always leave rooms as clear as possible when she's coming.

Giveyourheadawiggle · 19/11/2018 13:13

Thank you so much for this info. Has been invaluable and much appreciated. Be drawn up a contract and had my very handy lawyer friend check it out, and a slip for the keys.

I want a cleaner, sigh

Dontgiveamonkeys1350 · 19/11/2018 14:19

@Fantasisa some cleaners do just adhoc cleans. I let people just text when they want me to do a few hours for them. I keep one day free for this. If I don’t have anyone I have a nice day off.

cstaff · 19/11/2018 14:27

I have someone come in once a fortnight - she was recommended by a friend so started straight away with no interview or anything like that.

When she started she charged €12 an hour which I raised to €15 an hour a few years ago.

Fantasisa · 19/11/2018 14:42

@Dontgiveamonkeys1350 - that is such a good idea. I would like someone to join me on a mad cleaning day so I was working in partnership. I also need a post extension builders dust clean!

ShotsFired · 19/11/2018 14:50

Mine charges £12 hr and is extremely flexible and personable.

If you are visiting new clients I'd suggest you take your driving licence and maybe a matching bill as ID proof etc.
