Anyone live in Gloucester?

Hi. DD2 interested in Gloucester Uni and we have done an open day, all good. But we didn't have enough time to visit the town centre to have a mooch around. (She would be at Oxtalls Campus). Thought we might pop down this weekend. Can anyone recommend where to park (if it will be for a few hours) and can you walk from the town centre to the newer shopping outlet area? Any recommendations for lunch places? And I believe there is a canal / dock area? Any help would be great as I would like to make a plan for the day so we are not wondering around like lost tourists (exactly what we are!) Thanks

There are a few places to park - at the Docks or at Ladybellegate Street - but make sure you park on the council side of the car park, rather than the NCP side if you can! There's also a car park at the Eastgate Centre, which I don't think is too expensive.

You won't need to be there very long, the town centre isn't anything to write home about really. The cathedral is lovely of course, but there aren't really any other tourist attractions. It's a small city, so easily walkable to the Quays shopping outlet.

I've not lived in Gloucester for a while, so not sure where the nice places to eat nowadays are I'm afraid. I'm sure there'll be a local along soon though.

Hope this helps!!

My DD went to Gloucester Uni but the Francis Close Hall Campus so over in Chelts. They did go to Gloucester a lot. The Quays shopping was enjoyed and they parked near it. They took us over one day and we dis the shopping mall and docks and cathedral all easy walking distance. Not sure how close to Oxstalls that is.

Alos looked like a good gym near docks too!

The Quays has a Victorian Christmas Market on at the moment, which will be lovely but very busy! Parking anywhere near there will be tricky tbh.

Oxstalls in in Longlevens, so not close to the Quays really. You can park at the Quays and it does have some chain restaurants there - I don't think there is much to see in the town centre but you can walk there from the Quays. However, you might be better to park in the town centre and walk down to the Quays because of the market.

Not had lunch there but there is a nice Italian restaurant in the town centre called Topolys.

Thank you. I think we will park in town and walk to the quays then. Christmas market sounds good! X

Just to say the Christmas market is amazing. There is a fun fair, hundreds of stalls, an ice rink and a forest of frosted trees. It's open until the 25th Nov.
