Evening, Dd has her one year old injections coming up soon can anyone answer these questions for me please?
How many injections and where?
Do I need to give calpol before hand?
What are the injections for?
Thankyou in advance :-)

Also is she likely to be unsettled after?

Do you have a red book? I think it says in there or you could google it.

Sparrowlegs248 · 15/11/2018 23:04

You should have a leaflet about all of the injections. If I remember rightly it will be 4 injections, one in each arm and leg. Whether she is unsettled depends on how she reacts. Have Calpol.

As PP said there's 4 of them, our nurse said to give our DS calpol one hour before then again later that day. He wasn't particularly unsettled and was smiling at the nurse again before we left so they aren't too bad! Was your LO unsettled after the 12 week jabs? I wouldn't plan much just in case! Good luck!

AuraBora · 15/11/2018 23:08

4 jabs. Her sleep was pretty ropey for 2 nights after although she was alright during the day.

Thankyou xx

4 injections, DS had two in each leg but some places use arms as well so only one in each. They do need Calpol but it doesn't matter if you give just before or just after.

Tbh these were the worst for DS, he was miserable and intermittently feverish for a week after.

EyUpOurKid · 16/11/2018 00:00

DS ha two in each leg and had a large red rash on one leg for a while (week or so) after and one hard lump which gradually dissipated (took a few months ths though!. Calpol after (and a milky bar button!) He was fine. The look he gave the nurse though, it was stinking! Came out to a full waiting room all going "what have you been doing to that poor child?!' Grin

I am currently breastfeeding a very sad wee boy who had his one year injections this morning. He had four. The nurse didn't seem to think there would be much wrong, no need for Calpol etc. He's been miserable all day and very clingy. Poor wee dude. Hope yours go better!

Polkadot1502 · 17/11/2018 13:00

Thankyou I'm dreading them :-( xx

I’m a practice nurse.

They have 4 injections, some they’ve had before (Men B and Pneumo) and some new to them (Hib/Men C and MMR).

I use legs so do 2 in each. Some nurses use arms, and some use arms and legs! I avoid using all limbs as then the poor child has sore arms AND sore legs.

Yes Calpol is still needed, they’re not as likely to have the fever from Men B as when they were tiny but it is still possible. I also think they’re having 4 jabs and are going to feel crap so why not give Calpol.

It’s not nice but at least it’s all done in one go, and then that’s it until they’re 3.5! (Apart from nasal flu...)

cptartapp · 17/11/2018 13:34

Practice nurse here. They have a fourth hib (combined with men c), first mmr, third pneumonia and third Men B.
We use all four limbs and keep Men B separate to left thigh as per guidelines. Calpol not routinely given but encourage mum or dad to give it if necessary.
Most scream the place down tbh, but soon settle. Good luck.
