I’ve had a stressful day. I need to think about something else.

I love my vegan DMs. They are about 3 years old and I wear them so much.

DMs last for decades, but how long have you had yours?

Let’s see if we can find a winner.

Twenty years bought when I was 18 still going strong

I bought my DMs when I was 15. I was 47 this year. But they are put away for years at a time. Always get them out for the snow though 😄

A pair I bought when I was 15 and I’m 31 now ate still in good knick. They didndi away with the lifetime guarantee which I did think was suspicious. Then I bought a pair of Mary Janes and they lasted about 5 months. Had them replaced .. again lasted about 6 months... I suspect the manufacting quality and massively decreased.

Yes I had one pair that lasted 20 years then 2 in 3 years 😭

5 years and 3 years, but the flowers rubbed off the 5yo ones very quickly. 😭

Undercoverbanana · 15/11/2018 19:57

Mmmmm, I wonder if the ones made today will last as long as the old ones?

I got a pair for Christmas when I was 14, they finally fell to bits when I was 33. I did buy the same design off eBay a few years later but have recently sold them as they just didn't feel the same.

A pair of boots last me 2 years if I'm lucky. They haven't been good quality for a long time now (but I still buy them like an idiot). They are a fashion brand now, not made to last.

Icedgemandjelly · 15/11/2018 20:22

On same topic I had a pair of birkenstock for 12 years. I bought them for a tenner in a winter sale. I wore solidly every summer including tropical countries, India, in the sea, muddy festivals. Only retired as the metal bits were a tiny bit rusty. Wish I'd kept.
Bought a new pair and wore 2 summers basically to the park with toddlers and they fell apart. Basic 'survey' amongst other mums confirmed general decline in quality. I suppose if you run a business, selling shoes that last 12 years is not very profitable!

I bought mine in 1993 with my 14th birthday money (they were £40), they're still going strong

Maryann1975 · 15/11/2018 20:44

Miy dms are going into their third winter, but I can’t see them going through the whole season. The soles have no grip left at all and the tops are quite cracked. They get polished regularly so are well looked after. I expected them to last longer tbh and I’m disappointed they haven’t.

Maryann1975 · 15/11/2018 20:45

I should also add they do between 15-20 miles a week walking, but I don’t think that’s excessive for winter boots?
