I recently just joined this as I have just become a mum for the first time my LO is just passed four weeks old! A few days ago she was asleep on my chest and I went to pass her to my partner and I passed her so she would be lying flat in his arms. Just after I passed her to him she woke up tried to gasp for air but could she flung her head back and her eyes bulged and her face went red. She couldn't breath there was no noise nothing she just had her mouth open so I put her in the burping position and pounded her backand it took over a minute for her to let out a cry but she was still struggling she was making snorting noises and grunting noises and had drool coming out her mouth and nose! I'm not sure what happened but I ended up sitting with her all night to make sure if it happened again I would be awake. I'm so scared now that she will choke again? Does anyone know what might of happened?

Sounds like reflux....can make them cough and hold their breath. Try keeping her upright as long as possible after feeds or propping the end of the Moses basket

I agree it sounds like reflux. My son had this. When they are very little the lungs shut off if liquid comes back up from the stomach to stop asperation. It can take a while for the lungs to reopen.

I would take her to the doctors though so they can rule out anything else. They may also recommend a thickener to have with her milk to keep the contents of her stomach down.

Thank you for advise! I feel a bit more relaxed now knowing that it could just be reflux, scariest thing I have had to watch! My LO has a first appointment soon so will bring it up with the Dr just incase. How long does reflux last?

Could potentially also be a cough/cold - sometimes it can look like they are choking (and they probably think they are too if they've never had a cough before).

In most kids reflux should get better as they get more core strength. It should go once they can sit, but some reflux medication can increase symptoms, so I would avoid them if it's not a severe case.

For my ds it went when we weened him. Probably because he had solid food in his tummy rather than just milk.
