What does your cleaner do in 2-3 hrs?

Thinking of getting a cleaner in to help deal with the state of our pit! It's a four bed, with two bathrooms, and one downstairs loo. Regular size semi. We are a London Borough. One cleaner has quoted £10 an hour.

Ideally I'd want all bathrooms and toilets cleaned, floors hoovered and mopped. What else can they do in that time or is that it? No need for ironing btw.

Also, how do contracts work? Do we pay taxes, sick leave, annual leave? What about when we go on holiday? And what's best- agency or one man band? Thanks!

We pay our cleaner £10 per hour cash.

In 2.5 hours she cleans the shower room, kitchen, hallway and either the living room or dining room.

I would love for her to get round more of the house (she doesn't go upstairs at all) but she does a thorough job of the areas she gets to and the only alternative is for her to clean less thoroughly and cover more which I don't really want.

3 hours, cleans all of a small 2 bed London terrace. No contracts at all, £11 per hour

Sounds like I am being a little optimistic then, but at least I know we have a good rate. That doesn't seem like a lot is done in 2.5 hours though, redeye. I was hoping ours would cover the whole house...

I do one three hour house. For that I clean four bathrooms. Hoover two lots of stairs and hoover and wipe down the windows of six bedrooms.

I do a two hour job in a very messy and cluttered house. I donthe living room large kitchen hallway and bathroom.

It depends on what ur house is like how messy it is. Are u going to pick everything up. How fussy do u want her to be. All that has to be taken in to account. I have one house that wants all the details taken care off. And one that just wants surface stuff done.

Dontgiveamonkeys1350 · 15/11/2018 17:15

My best suggestion that I always say is. Do it yourself exactly what u want done. Then go with that. Always be aware that the first couple of cleans always take longer to do.

When I take on a house I like to either do a deep clean first which takes longer or do a deep clean over a few weeks if they don’t want to spend the extra money at first

Also. Are you paying for the job as a whole or the hours worked. If you have the house worked you have to becareful they worked the time.

My house is 4 bedroom, 2 bathroom, kitchen, utility, dining room, living room, study & playroom.
Our cleaner does approx half the house in 2 hours. I always leave it tidy for her so she can get on.
She does a good job and tidies cushions and throws etc.

Central London. Cleaner does two hrs a week at £10 an hour and cleans whole two bed flat, plus one extra job eg changing sheets/hanging washing out or cleaning fridge.

runwithme · 15/11/2018 17:23

Fab, thanks, this gives me something to go on.

Our house sounds similar to naice's minus the study and playroom. We will be leaving it as tidy as poss, but I don't expect her to clear away, just cleanwhere she can. Great advice about doing it ourselves first. Will do that this weekend.
