Made to feel fat and disgusting at work.

Have to wear a uniform at work. I am overweight, short and a size 14-16. My tabard was a medium.

I have only just started. A woman I had never spoken to before said to me that my tabard looked uncomfortably tight, follow her and she would get me a bigger one.

She proceeded to give me a large to try on. No, that still was tight across my bust. "Shame we only go up to XL, that'll have to do. Should cover your bum up

I am dieting, lost 10 lbs, which is a start. Now I feel disgusting. This happened in front of lots of other people. Wanted the ground to swallow me up

I am new so wasn't confident or assertive.

Yes the medium was snug ish, not tight.

Was she just trying to be helpful? If I noticed someone looking uncomfortable I might make a similar suggestion, but of course everything depends on how it came across at the time.

Oh how horrible for you op Flowers. I'm big on top and can really sympathise. Even if she was trying to help, it was really insensitive of her to do that in front of everyone else. Many congratulations on your weight loss and don't let it get you down.

Are you in a customer facing role? If so, it’s understandable that your colleagues would be anxious for you to look appropriately dressed in clothing of the right size.

toastlover100 · 13/11/2018 17:02

Yes customer facing. I didn't realise that it looked bad, thought the fit was fine.

I am being sensitive, but having just been through a year of severe depression it felt like a bit of a confidence knock. Embarrassing too.

I think she should have asked you discretely if she felt it may have been uncomfortable. But then she's not wearing it so none of her business. But definitely don't feel it's right to do that in front of others. Congratulations on your weight loss. I'd try not to take this personally but if anything else happens definitely speak up

Ignore her.
iirc, the average dress size in the UK is a 16. So if you wear a 14 or 16, you must be smaller than average. If they don't make uniform to fit over half the female population, they are being very blinkered.
Congrats on the weight loss.
