Recommend me a coffee machine please

I’m currently furnishing a holiday let. I’ve read loads of threads on here about what people like in holiday let’s and one thing I’m struggling to find is a decent coffee machine. I don’t drink coffee so I have no idea what makes it taste better or worse. A lot of people are recommending the machines that use pods - I really don’t want to do that as I’m trying to make it as eco friendly as possible.

So recommendations please for a really good, pod free coffee machine (that ideally doesn’t cost an absolute fortune).

Thank you

Most holiday lets I've stayed in either have a Nespresso machine (so the dreaded pods) or a cafetiere. I'd actually suggest going with a cafetiere as then it minimises the risk that visitors will break it - and it's more environmentally friendly than a pod machine.I'm a coffee snob so usually take my own coffee away with me and I quite happy to use a cafetiere. My heart sinks when it's a pod machine though.

Aeropress. You can take it on holiday with you then.

I'd get a Moka Pot. By far the best coffee to be made at home and very inexpensive for a holiday let. It's all we use now at home having been through many machines over the years.

We were all for getting a fancy pants bean-to-cup job, but then rediscovered the joys of drip coffee on holiday in the US. Came back, bought an old school Russell Hobbs filter machine and pints of full fat milk and saved the best part of £600.

But for a holiday let, I'd just get a cafetiere. Easy to use, easy to clean, easy to replace if it gets broken.

Yes get an aeropress for this situation.

I’m a coffee snob, single origin beans, bean to cup machine etc, but it’s just not practical for a holiday let, chances are decent fresh beans won’t be available locally, whilst you can at least get a decent bag of ground from somewhere.

Aeropress and a big cafetière would be preferable to some pod machine if I was a visitor.

We have a Krups machine that's about 15 years old, makes espresso, milk frother and drip jug, all still going strong although we rarely use the drip function. We grind beans, make espresso, add hot frothy milk and save a fortune on buying coffee out.

It was probably about £200 at the time of purchasing and was worth every penny. I'm not keen on the pod coffee makers, I don't like the taste of the coffee they make.

My friend has a holiday cottage and has a cafetière. If it breaks, you can easily get a replacement for under a tenner. Shes got a high rating so having one wont make your cottage better than anyone elses.

Who would supply the pods anyway?

icelollycraving · 13/11/2018 17:09

We have a good coffee machine but it was costly and it takes a bit of learning. I’d get a cafetière, as pp said, if it’s broken, easy and cheap to replace.

Aeropress or cafetaire.

BathFullOfEels · 13/11/2018 17:39

Thank you all. I was very much hoping a cafetière would be the answer but, as I don’t drink coffee, I wasn’t sure if that was a cheap, crappy option. Glad to hear you wouldn’t be too horrified if you were to find a cafetière in a holiday let.
