Wwyd about this cat?

There is a cat that lives behind us and spends all his day out and about. Over the weekend, where is rained continuously and during 'the beast from the east' he was outside and took shelter in our car barn.

I thought he had disappeared, and I had hoped he had found another home to sleep in however he has reappeared and I cannot leave him over another Winter. His owner used to try and find him but no longer seems bothered. She has a car barn too but he never sleeps there!

He has not been castrated and therefore likes to mark his territory which is the main reason I will not encourage him in to our house.

Help, I am torn because I am tempted to rescue him...

He used to come up to me but I fear he has been scared away by so many people he is a little nervous now.

I am tempted to provide a warm bed for him however we are hoping to move soon and I don't want to make him dependent on us if/when we move!

Help!

If you are sure he doesn’t have an owner (have you tried a paper collar with a message on asking an owner to let you know he belongs to someone?) I would catch him and take him to a rescue. They will neuter and re-home him. Unless you want to take him on yourself! He won’t spray once he’s been neutered.

He doesn't need rescuing. Cats are quite able to look after themselves and able to find somewhere warm to sleep.

If it was me I'd put a little cat house in my car barn if there was room, with a nice warm blanket in it so he can make himself comfortable. If he's got an owner I wouldn't feed him though. We have a scruffy cat who regularly sleeps in our garden shed so I put down a blanket for him. He's always outside and I felt sorry for him . You're just helping him out as I see it, not stealing him from his uncaring rightful owner !
