Anybody else have a scruffy bugger for a DP?

I mean, don't get me wrong - he's wonderful, has helped me through some very tricky times, and I love him dearly, but as long as he's wearing something he doesn't care what state it's in. He wears jeans and company T-shirts to work, and I swear by the time he puts the jeans out for washing they could have walked there by themselves. I need a whip and a chair to get them in the washing machine.

Last night we were going out and he couldn't find his favourite jumper (I'd washed it), so he cheerfully said, "Oh, well, I'll just have to wear my comfy one". His comfy jumper is ancient, stretched out of shape, and has paint down the front, but if I hadn't dug his other one out of the tumble dryer he'd have worn it (only found out then that he's down to 2 jumpers. Never occurred to him to get more.)

He showers regularly, he just has this immense blind spot about clothes! Please tell me it's not just him?

My DH is the same. I have to say it's an unattractive feature. Especially as I like to make an effort and he hasn't shaved in months, wears cheapo supermarket jeans that cost £3 and plain t shirts or a scruffy fleece.

Yoksha · 13/11/2018 17:35

Mine too.
I'll take you're supermarket jeans that cost £3, WhyAmISoCold and raise you!
Mine had jumbo cord jeans and washed and wore them until they became shiny like satin. It took about 21yrs. He's such a pain.
Clean in personal hygiene etc., but just not a style guru. Grin

Yep, Mr Freaks is a scruff.
Sometimes I have to refuse to go out with him to make him change. Cheap jeans, trainers and Primark t-shirts are his outfit of choice. He has nicer things (that I bought him) in his wardrobe but they're just gathering dust.

Mine is a bugger for wearing his ‘nice’ clothes to work. He’s a farmer, why he feels the need to wear chinos and shirts with expensive jumpers to work I’ll never know. So when we do actually want to go out, we have to try and hunt out the trousers with the least diesel/oil stains. I’ve had to start hiding clothes. Currently the only non-ruined pair of trousers are the ones he wore to our wedding, but I guard those with my life.

sirmione16 · 13/11/2018 18:45

Yup! Mine is 30 and wears baggy clothes and skinny jeans - think black skinny's, converse, band tablet and checkered shirt open over it. But the thing is, he doesn't have a clue how to dress "grown up" so for work always has his shirts untucked as "they're uncomfortable" and had to buy him a belt and shoes like a child. I like his casual look but I just want him to look clean and polished sometimes Blush

sirmione16 · 13/11/2018 18:53

Band tshirt **

Mrs Johnson until the divorce comes through.

Beamur · 13/11/2018 19:28

My DH is very active/outdoorsy, so he wears stuff like Ron Hill trackies and breathable tops -all the time. He works from home mostly too, so rarely wears smart office clothes.

MiddlingMum · 13/11/2018 19:40

DH is the kindest, most lovely man on the planet, but has to be checked over before being allowed out of the house Grin

Hatejamlovebutter · 13/11/2018 19:54

I am the scruff bag in the relationship Grin very old jumpers and tshirts that are baggy and mishapen with holes in and weird marks are basically my uniform Grin Dh was quite smart when I met him but notice its been changing recently, more in line with me!

Soph88 · 13/11/2018 19:57

My DH is so scruffy. He insists on wearing clothes that are a size too big because otherwise he's 'uncomfortable'. He'll tall as well so all his T-shirts are too short on him. Drives me crazy!

LizzieBennettDarcy · 13/11/2018 20:10

My DH is an utter nightmare with clothes. He has to wear smart casual to work so owns 3 pairs of trousers he rotates, and about 6 shirts that he wears until threadbare. Casual stuff consists of 2 old fraying pairs of Levis that are barely blue they are so washed, and 2 polo shirts. He also owns some golf stuff that frankly makes him look 90 instead of 55..... and i'd happily set fire to. He has 2 coats, and about 3 pairs of shoes. He will buy something, wear it for 20 years and then have a massive tantrum when he wants to just replace it with an identical item....... I wouldn't say he's a scruff but he always looks exactly the same!! And I have to prise things off him to wash them. His greatest clothing love is the dressing gown of doom. It's a grey smelly towelling one that he literally has a meltdown if I wash. I can smell it in our bedroom, it's THAT bad.

FuckKnuckle · 13/11/2018 20:50

I'm so glad it's not just mine!

@maerd, yes! He'll set off up the garden to work on his motorbike in his decent jeans and jumper, and I have to call him back and get him to change into his (even scruffier) scruffs. I thought I'd finished with all this when I no longer had to march the kids upstairs to change out of their school uniforms!

@Lizzie, mine has a dressing gown like that too. I have to try to sneak it into the wash and get it dried before he comes home from work when it gets too offensive - I have to tumble dry it because he can smell if it's been dried outside.

Yes, Jeremy is so scruffy, it took me ages to get him to wear a tie to work and he wore an old raincoat to an important work do on Sunday. Oh the shame

lljkk · 13/11/2018 21:59

DH is tidy. I'm the scruffy one. I have to concentrate very hard to figure out what is smart & why I should care to look that way.

StillMedusa · 13/11/2018 22:42

Mine wears Crocs (with socks) and shorts at home. Never wears long trousers as even his work uniform has shorts as an option (to the point it looks odd if he has to!)

That and Lycra as hes a cyclist...

Shame as he is very fit and attractive for his age. I don't dress up but my daily wear is definitely a lot smarter than his . I surreptitiously bin his baggy t shirts whenever I can!

fantasmasgoria1 · 14/11/2018 11:51

My fiancé is always looks smart and tidy but his brother is the opposite! You could put his bro in a 5 grand suit and he would still look scruffy lol Grin
