Am.i the only person who can't be trusted in the kitchen?

Before we start. I can cook. I'm pretty good at cooking. (Well, I haven't poisoned anyone that I know of!)

However, I'm constantly giving myself minor injuries in the kitchen. It's gotten to the point where my partner has advised me to wear long sleeves when I'm cooking to protect my arms.

In the past year I've burnt myself a dozen times, always on my left arm, once quite badly. (oil from the roast potatoes)

There are times where I look like a torture victim!
The last one was on Sunday where I managed to catch the inside of my elbow with a hot baking tray. How did I even manage that?

I'm not that clumsy anywhere else. So has my kitchen got it out for me?

Still cuts his fingers on a regular basis..
Once chopped one right off....

Burning yourself is usually a symptom of rushing. Work out why you are, and arrange things so that you don't need to.

There are very few things that won't mind an extra fifteen seconds for you to do whatever.

Get some trivets scattered around so you're not flapping for space to put hot things.

If your oven gloves (or equivalent, I mean I usually use a towel double-doubled) are too thin, get better ones. Get two sets - as soon as they get damp, they conduct the heat.

Get one of those mesh flat things that you put over pans to stop spatter. Grill more instead of fry, that also helps.

Also, don't chop your fingers off. That'd be daft.

This message brought to you by 35 years of hurting myself.

Avoid burning the sort of web bit that joins your thumb to your hand (multiple times Blush)
I would advise you how to do this but clearly I have no idea

Thanks all. Glad I'm not alone in kitchen clumsy-ness.

Think half my problem is tiny kitchen, and people coming in unexpectedly. Mean I jump and inevitably damage myself.

May out a please knock sign on the door!

Put a lock on the door! Or take the door off so it's not surprising?

I spill stuff over me all the time plus bang into things, cut myself etc. I worked put recently that it's not helped by the fact that I'm short and am not meaning down onto the counter if you see what I mean. If I stand on tiptoes I'm much less clumsy.

Sallygoroundthemoon · 14/11/2018 11:08

Out not put!

Leaning not meaning. Ffs autocorrect.
