Start with the MoneySavingExpert website - I printed off a couple of forms from there, filled them in to the best of my ability (given it was a long time ago) and sent them off thinking at best I'd have to justify it more.

I got a cheque for about £4K a couple of weeks later (they included several years of interest on the amount). No payments to a third party, all very simple.

My dad used to be a landlord and has had 3 mortgages, he ended up getting over £18,000 but paid the company that did it for him 20% of that so still £14,500 odd i think.
I can ask him what company it was but like a PP said, it’ll probably be more worth your time to do it yourself

If you know which banks etc you've had accounts/loans/mortgages with it's pretty much pointless to use a claims company, you don't even need account numbers or copies of old paperwork. Most banks etc have a dedicated department for PPI claims now and the info they ask for is no different from the claim companies forms so it's really just as easy to do it yourself.

Most of mine was with one bank so I rang their PPI claims line, gave a few details and they then did a search to see what PPI policies I'd had. They sent a form through the post asking for more details (most of which I had to answer 'don't know' to as I couldn't remember) which I filled in and sent back and I then received a decision within 8 weeks and a cheque shortly after.

It's worth reading up on the implications for tax and also benefits/tax credits if you receive them but none of it is too complicated and most of it will most likely be dealt with by the bank before you get your decision. PM me if there's anything you don't understand and I'll do my best to explain. Don't be put off by that side of it though, I struggle with anything financial/official and I managed ok.

It's worth doing though, I'd rather not say how much I got but it was a fair bit for not very much effort at all Smile

Don't use a company to do it for you as they will take A percentage.
I went through the Martin Lewis website and used 'Resolver' Its so easy, a few questions. I didn't need the account number, just dates of the loan. About 3 weeks later had a cheque for half the loan back.

I did it through the Barclays website, they have their own forms for bank account fee and credit card/loans PPI. I got a repayment of £800 and then another one for £5k!

We did it easily enough through Nationwide’s website.

We had a letter saying that nothing we hadn’t been misinformed (despite being told that it had to be added there and then to the mortgage application) but as a goodwill gesture they would pay us £543.
We then had another letter six months later saying that they’d re-examined our complaint, it was still unsuccessful but they were paying us a further £73.
