Does anyone know how long 111 normally takes to ring back when they have asked the symptoms questions and say they'll call back for advice?

They usually tell you a guideline when they speak to you that first time.

Afaik the calls are triaged so for example I rang recently and they called me back almost immediately but I’ve waited 6ish hours before when it’s been non urgent.

Think is an hour or two. Did they not give you any indication of a timeframe? If you've been waiting longer give them a call back otherwise you may find they have auto dispatched an ambulance as they have missed the callback target time.

She didn't give me a time scale but it was about an hour ago when we called.

Just concerned as it's for my one year old and he's not gone to sleep. Don't want her to call too late if he needs to be seen... but also don't want to call back when someone else may be waiting to get through!

If you are concerned about your child's health then call back. They will be busy, they always are, it's the very nature of the service. But that shouldn't stop you from seeking advice/reassurance.

HoleyCoMoley · 12/11/2018 20:16

If its a child call them again, hope d.c is ok.

someonekillbabyshark · 12/11/2018 20:18

If they feel it's urgent they ring back within the hour, if not so much up to 3 hours... but if you feel it's urgent enough to ring back then get DC seen?

RoseDog · 12/11/2018 20:18

Dp phoned 111 yesterday and it was 3 hours before they phoned back then another 3 hours before he was seen by a Dr.

LAAA · 12/11/2018 20:19

They left me 4 hours one time, generally 1-2 though.

Even if they phoned back now though and wanted to see him the appointment could be in a couple of hours so you’d most likely have to wake him anyway.

Hope he’s ok!

SuperVeggie · 12/11/2018 21:23

111 are useless. On more than one occasion now I have phoned them and they’ve told me someone will call back within the hour, one time they didn’t call back for 9 hours, another time they called me back and said there will be a delay and then took 6 hours, another time it took 5 hours and I eventually gave up and went to A and E. They tell you to call back if any problems but this doesn’t seem to do anything.

I would either take him straight to A and E or call them back and tell them that his symptoms have got worse. If you call back but nothing has changed then you still just sit in the queue of people being ignored...

opentopbustour · 13/11/2018 07:41

She rang me back at 3am to ask if my one year old was verbally able to tell me he was unwell?? 🤔🤔🤔

Anyway, that's why I didn't really want to call back as they're obviously incredibly busy! It wasn't URGENT but I was concerned.

Thanks for the help everyone. Think lots of cuddles for LO are in order!
