Awful hair making me so depressed

I've got awful hair. It's so thin, really short, all different lengths, damaged. It's impossible to wear down so I have to have it a thin ugly bun everyday. It's getting to a point it's actually making me so self conscious that I feel depressed and panicky. I desperately need help. Does anyone have any advice of how to fix this

Oh dear :( I’m sure no one else even notices! Could you get extensions?

hidinginthenightgarden · 11/11/2018 18:58

Could you get it cut short?

BumsexAtTheBingo · 11/11/2018 18:59

If it’s long enough to get in a bun could you wear one of those bobbles with the swirly hair that make it look like a fuller, messy bun.
Is it snapping if it is all different lengths? If you want to grow it lay off dye or heat styling and give it a deep condition once a week and visit the hairdresser regularly to get the dead ends trimmed. Also try using a tangle tamer or wide tooth comb and avoid brushing when wet if your hair breaks easily.

No advice but I empathise. I was actually in tears over this last week. A few years ago I stopped using heat and any damaging treatments, started using only natural products and chopped off what I thought was damaged hair to start afresh. The problem is that my hair has grown through exactly the same. I just have shit hair Sad The strands are fine and it's thin all over. My hairline is sparce and receding. I'm so upset that this is my lot. The worst thing is that my hair type needs a lot of manipulation and every time I touch it I end up with a handful of hair despite being so gentle. This means I end up leaving it in the same ugly style at home and wear wigs out.

Despite my own hair being shit, I've learnt all there is to know about how to have healthy strands so maybe I can help!

Why is your hair damaged?
Do you deep condition?
Is it different lengths because of breakage? If so, do you get a lot of breakage or more loss from the root?

Would you suit a pixie cut?

millsbynight · 11/11/2018 19:14

Hair extensions for thickness (not length)?

HilaryBriss · 11/11/2018 19:16

Its obviously not really short if it is long enough to put in a bun!

Can you visit a good hairdresser and have an inch or so cut off and have it styled into something more suitable for you? They will know what kind of style will help to make your hair look thicker.

I naturally have really dark hair and I slowly highlighted it all so it was blonde - it's fairly long as well. Making it blonde damaged it so much as I didn't look after it. eventually I cut it shorter and dyed it back dark and starting taking care of it. The two products that really thickened it back up and helped it grow was Mane and Tail shampoo and conditioner. I've since recommended this to loads of friends who all love it too. It's about £4-6 a bottle. Maybe give that a go. I'm sure you are beautiful whatever your hair looks like @desphair xxx

Ah, and a few solutions for if you just have shit hair, like me:
I get my half wigs shipped from the States (very cheap) and they are completely undetectable as your hairline stays out. You can also get them in the UK.
Ponytail attachment as a PP mentioned above. Again, I get mine online.
Extensions as mentioned above, although best as a short term fix.

All of these are called protective styles which mean that your hair gets a chance to rest and grow healthily.

Also try massaging castor oil into your scalp as it encourages hair growth. Maybe try some supplments too if you feel you may be lacking in something that affects hair health.

I sympathise.
Milk hairdressers always a day og it’s very fine but you’ve got a lot of it.

Now it’s falling out due to b12 problems and I just hate it. It’s in a ponytail all day and looks shit.
Makes me cry.

KarrisWhiteOak · 11/11/2018 19:19

Milk?! Sorry my hairdressers.
