Can someone explain the problem with mermaids charity?

This is not a challenge, I genuinely want to know.
I've seen a lot of posts regarding children in need giving money to mermaids and I understand the whole issue with trans rights at the moment.
But can anyone explain why they are unhappy with CIN giving money to mermaids?

This isn't meant as a debate or provocation, I am not as educated as I would like on trans issues and just would like to know the issue people have with this charity

As i understand it, they take a very proactive approach to helping children into transition. There doesn't seem to be any critical reflection. They use emotive language and dodgy statistics to encourage parents to transition their children.

Mermaids is a charity/lobby group that pushes for quick, medicalised transition if children. There are no safety studies for the so-called puberty blockers they stress are necessary. They use emotive, debunked suicide statistics to scare parents into following their advice. They call any parents who question them or adopt a wait and see approach transphobic. Susie Green, the CEO of Mermaids, advocates for permanent, irreversible surgery in children without psychological assessments beforehand. There are clear links between the BBC and the push to normalise transgender children.

As @picklemepopcorn said. They don't accept that maybe kids are Xu fused about their sexuality- as opposed to their gender. They push and are pushing for quicker diagnosis- and access to drugs- which there are no long term studies about the effect this is having. They don't accept (or advertise) the statistics of those who then decide to no longer transition, or the acceptance of late onset gender dysphasia- and that it may be a social construct, based on teenagers being generally confused and whole groups decision to change gender as teenagers- with no evidence they previously had an issue with this gender pre this. They are too pushy, and less supportive, more militant

@BlytheSpiritsSpirit-
X post and you say it better!

This explains how Mermaids misuse statistics about child suicide attempts.

Mermaids were very much involved in the case of a boy whose mother was apparently encouraging him to live as a girl, and I believe the judge told them to stay away from the mother

This is the investigation into the whole mess and makes for eye opening reading (although only tangentially related to your question Smile)
