Would your DP have come home?

About an hour ago, someone tried to open our side door. Thankfully it was locked. Door is at the end of our drive in a quiet close, so unlikely to be someone just wandering past. Really made me and the dog jump. Dog spent ages pacing around before settling down. I’m home alone with 2 DC’s asleep in bed. DP is at the pub. He’d been messaging me so I mentioned what had happened. He’s not drinking, has the car with him so could easily come home. He hasn’t. I’m a big girl and not easily frightened. DP often works away so I am used to being home alone. I checked on DC’s and checked all doors and windows are locked. For info, there have been a few break ins nearby recently, one where the family was at home and were assaulted by the intruders. Whilst I didn’t ask him to come home, I think maybe he should have done anyway. What would your DP have done?

I think you should have run the police, not to come out to you but so that they could send someone to be in the area in case they were trying lots of houses.

SixToEightInchesOfSnow · 11/11/2018 08:29

No I don’t think he would tbh ☹️

Snowscreen · 11/11/2018 08:33

Would the police fingerprint the door?
I expect he wore gloves though.
Any CCTV outside or a security light?

I would be putting those 2 things up today, even more so due to the history of the area.

DH probably would have come home. Although I say that when just a few weeks ago he slept through the attempted burglary that we had here, they had actually got up onto our extension roof and were in the process of opening the spare room window when I confronted them. DH didn't wake to any of it. Even the police hurtling round here. But then I didn't wake him up either.

Russell19 · 11/11/2018 09:05

My husband would have come home, but he would have needed to be asked. He doesn't take hints!

Huskylover1 · 11/11/2018 09:08

Yes, my DH would have been straight home, and out with a torch checking every nook and cranny. He would have no qualms in apprehending any bloke in our garden. But, he's a massive cop, so it's kind of his job!

OrgyOfSpookiness · 11/11/2018 09:08

Hey there,

Log it on the non emergency number or with a local pcso.

We had it happen at our house and by logging the incident it meant that they upped patrols in our local area as there had been others. Just because they couldn't get in this time won't stop them from trying again.

Glad he came home but there's not need for him to be an arse is there 😊

Huskylover1 · 11/11/2018 09:10

@mama You didn't wake your DH up, even though you knew men were breaking into your home? I find this beyond weird

Kit10 · 11/11/2018 09:12

I think he would, but I'm a firm believer in just asking for what you want and if you wanted him home you should have asked, if he then didn't come home you'd have something to be angry about. Everyone here is old enough to not play games, say what you want, we all interpret things differently, he probably just didn't see it as a scary situation.

ShowOfHands · 11/11/2018 09:12

DH would have come home because he's a copper and professional curiosity would mean he would want to check around the house. He would not come home because he thought I couldn't cope alone. What did you text? If it was "I'm scared" then that's different to "somebody tried a locked door and has now gone". I wouldn't want him to come home, in fact I wouldn't have told him.

Llioed · 11/11/2018 09:23

My DH would come straight home - we have a small CCTV camera overlooking our driveway so he would watch that to see who walked down our driveway.

Hope you are ok, OP Flowers

beanaseireann · 11/11/2018 10:53

My dh would have asked did I want him to come home.
Get a CCTV camera fitted at your side door. Did your dog bark ?
Were you in the room when the door knob turned.?
I'd be sick with fear.

Myneighbourisodd · 11/11/2018 13:00

My ex probably would have came home, one of the reasons he's a ex tbh, then again he was away for the weekend to watch football when I got swine flu, I was really Ill and he didn't even come home then, God knows why I stayed with him for another 5 years Confused

Myneighbourisodd · 11/11/2018 13:01

Probably wouldn't have came home, that was meant to say

sisterfrancesbeaverhausen · 11/11/2018 13:31

He would have been home in an instant. This happened once when he was away working and he sent his dad round immediately, who stayed overnight to make sure everything was ok.
