Christmas Wrapping Paper - last year's!

Had a big sort out of Christmas stuff today and found rolls and rolls of unused paper, but it's all musty as has been in the loft all year! How many of you chuck out stuff you had last year and buy new every year? It is very tempting! Any ideas what to do with the old stuff if you buy new?

dont usually have much left so new every year mum used to use old christmas paper to line drawers!

olivo · 10/11/2018 17:53

I often use old. In fact, this year and last, trying to clear out, so not buying any new. If it is musty, can you leave it unrolled in an empty/not used corner, to air it a bit? It is only going to be thrown away, after all. Be aware though, I am not someone who picks a theme for decorations/ wrapping etc, so my advice might be dud!

When you say musty what do you mean? If it smells of damp I’d chuck it but if it’s just a bit dusty I’d keep it.
You can get cheap stuff I in card Factory etc

It doesn't seem very eco to chuck last year's wrapping paper. What a waste! Couldn't you just air it in the house to get rid of any mustiness, and then use as normal? And next year, store your Christmas wrapping paper on top of the wardrobe or something to avoid mustiness.

StingsandThings · 10/11/2018 18:06

Confused it wouldn't occur to me to throw away last year's wrapping paper. I always have at least some ends left over that I use for small gifts and sometimes half a roll or so

Is it worth seeing if local charities or foodbank will accept some of it?

bimbobaggins · 10/11/2018 21:07

If I deemed it too musty / damaged for my own use and was I disposing of it I wouldn’t offer it to charity or food bank .

I always buy wrapping paper in the sales each year and store it for the next year. Wrap, crackers and cards, always bought in the sale! One year I got a bit over-enthusiastic and ordered loads and ended up using t up over about 3 years. I can't imagine year old paper being in so bad a condition you can't use it - surely your loft isn't that damp? Unless your roof is leaking?

drspouse · 10/11/2018 21:14

If it's actually paper, and it's actually mouldy, you can compost it.

gamerchick · 10/11/2018 21:18

Eh it's Christmas wrapping paper. If it's usable then why not use it? Confused

EnidButton · 10/11/2018 22:07

I wouldn't be able to use musty smelling paper. But I do have a very strong sense of smell so perhaps being fussy. Plus I like buying wrapping and all the bits to go with it.

Can you air it for a bit? See if it wears off?

For anyone asking, musty is like a damp mildewed type smell. Doesn't necessarily mean the paper is mouldy as it can be picked up from the room it's in. But it's not a nice smell and can be strong.

EnidButton · 10/11/2018 22:08

And is it not wrapped in cellophane? Might be ok once you unwrap it.
