Hello I am looking to buy a house next year, I have never had my own house before and don’t know a lot about them. I was wondering when getting a tv licence, how much does this cost and do u pay monthly or yearly? Or can you pay it all upfront and not pay anything for it again? Another thing I wanted to know was if I was buying a WiFi network with a house phone, would I need a licence for this? I’m very confused 🙂

You can pay for a TV licence by monthly direct debit to spread the cost. You can set it all up online. You don't need a licence for WiFi and a home phone. If you never watch terrestrial TV, including catch up on the iPlayer you don't need a TV licence. You do however need to be prepared not to be believed!

You need the official government website for your TV licence www.gov.uk/tv-licence

We pay for our TV license annually up front. It’s around £150 (can’t remember the exact figure but one of those links will tell you!)

You don’t need a license for WiFi. You just need a contract with a provider (BT/TalkTalk/Sky/Virgin/etc) that includes internet. You will pay line rental, which gives you a phone number, but you don’t need to connect an actual phone if you won’t use it.

Hope that helps ;)
