Anyone play rugby?

Just that question really, does anyone play rugby? I am thinking of joining a women's team near me, has anyone got any good websites or can tell me more about what it is like for a beginner? I love contact sports!

Yeah I do/did (I say did as I currently have an injury that I’m thinking has probably finished my playing career).

Definitely call a few teams and have a chat. Most will invite you to go down and watch training/meet the coaches.

Rugby union is easier to play than rugby league if that’s a consideration!

Have fun!

Most training sessions will consist of warm up, passing drills then working on tackle technique. Beginners will usually start by tackling the tackle bags and then move onto stationary people.

Don’t be afraid to take it at your own pace and ask for advice.

(I’m a coach too)

I've been thinking about it! My daughter has just started and is loving it.

I would have liked to try it as a kid but wasn't given the chance so wondering about now...

Thanks for the advise, I only have one team close by, and that's only started up in the last few years, and is still looking for players for a squad and are only playing friendly matches, when I emailed they did say that there are a lot of beginners at the club!

WhirlwindHugs

Thank you!

Does anyone know any good websites, to look at for Rules, and just generally more information, so I know a bit more information?

Depends on the code but you can’t go far wrong with the official websites.

Check out RFU or RFL and there’ll be links to various rule books etc.

Thanks, also will I be alright, in sport leggings, and T-shirt, I know if I enjoy it I will need boots and gum shield, but for first session will that be okay?

I had a very short lived rugby career and loved every second of it. A friend of mine is married to a rugby coach and he was started the local clubs ladies side, I went along to bulk out the numbers and fell in love with playing. I loved watching rugby anyway but had no idea about the rules! I played in one game, 6 weeks to the day before i got married (my mum May have bribed the opposition to stay away from me!)

I stopped because it wasn’t local to me and no one else was going so couldn’t car share. Was costing me too much in petrol.

By the way, I was horribly overweight and unfit and no one cared.

Do it OP, you’ll love it.

Ok, I know you want the contact element, but there is a massive group involved in Try Tag Rugby (website and Facebook group). It's tag rugby, so non contact, however, if you join the group on Facebook, they might be able to recommend full contact rugby groups to you.
