GDPR & CCTV

I've been in my job for a few months. Been Acting Supervisor for the last couple of weeks, which involves sampling bits of CCTV. What I didn't realise, when I'm sampling CCTV, it is recorded what I'm watching, including any goings on in the staff room. This means I can go back for the last year and see what any other supervisor or manager has watched of me.
If you were me, would you go back and see who's watched recordings of you in the staff room?

I realise that, but I have seen other staff getting changed, and therefore I am curious as to whether I have been observed getting changed, and by who. Do you not think I should be able to view that information?

No, if you are concerned then you should raise it in the appropriate way and follow the company procedure or contact your union rep

But, if I've seen other staff getting changed, should I mention it to those staff? Not only that I've seen them getting changed, but that it's being recorded and that it might be seen by others? Should I ask for any recordings that might have been made of me?

The law says it can be in changing rooms if it's justified. My employer says its justified to prevent shrinkage. Fair enough, but no one knew there was CCTV in the staff room, which is where staff get changed!

And the rules say when CCTV is being viewed, both a male and female member of management have to view it. But that still means males have probably watched me getting changed!

Why were you watching the cctv? Especially when you could see staff getting changed, why wouldn't you stop watching? Confused

If you're concerned by who might have viewed cctv footage of you or others getting changed, raise it via the appropriate channels. To answer your op, no, I would not take it upon myself to go back and see who has viewed what footage. I would however make staff aware that they are being recorded in the staff room

You certainly need to raise this via the appropriate channels and not just take it upon yourself to view the recordings. Do you have concerns that there’s been inappropriate “use” of the recordings or have suspicions about a particular colleague? Also, when you say “getting changed” do you mean taking off a coat and putting on an overall, or do you have to strip right off and put on (for example) a medical uniform or similar? (Not that that makes a huge difference).

I'm presuming though that you'd need to go through footage to find out when you were in camera and then go through and check every time to see if they were all accessed.

What do you mean by preventing "shrinkage"? I don't know what that it so know if it's ok or not that cameras are installed in a changing area.

I do think that staff should know they are being filmed in a changing room though as that's very creepy. Is it a mixed sex changing area as you call it a staff room, or just women? If just women, is there the same thing in the men's area?

Do you have reason to suspect that someone may have been through looking at videos of you getting changed, or is it more of a genuine curiosity now that you know? Or have you done something in the changing rooms that you shouldn't have and are now panicking about it?

Preventing shrinkage is a euphemism for having a problem with staff nicking stuff and they have CCTV in places where they have a reasonable belief that they will help detect or prevent it.

It should not be up to the individual moitor to decide if the CCTV is covert or not, but if they have concerns that should raise them up the management chain. So don't tell other people about it, unless you have done so, and have serious concerns that the use is not reasonable, proportionate and necessary have reported to ICO

I'm not sure it is legal to have cctv in changing areas without telling people, even before GDPR came in to force. I'd definitely raise it. But no, you aren't to check what cctv the previous supervisor has seen.

I’d be asking for the reasons why cctv is also in the staff room and for how long it is kept and for what purpose. Surely if there is no evidence of wrong doing it isn’t necessary to keep it.

I’d also want to be aware of the processes and procedures around viewing of it as well.
