Mental health appointment. Cbt

I have finally plucked up the courage to self refer myself to the mental health cbt department.

They phoned today to say I will have my first meeting on the phone next week. The phone call will last 45 mins.

I feel better for doing this but I’m going to work myself up into a mess worrying about what they are going to ask me.

Has anyone else had this. What sort of things did they ask. I think I will feel better knowing what to expect as the whole not knowing is one of the things that can set me off

Hi

They will post a questionnaire a few days before and it will be the same questions on the phone.
Will discuss what issue it actually is, deoression or anxiety.

I did a CBT course online and it was interesting to read An work through.i don’t think it was as good as seeing someone in the flesh but I couldn’t commit the time.
Pm me if you have any q’s

My appointment is on Monday. So no time for a questionare. That would have been better

I’ve just started this, on week three. The questionnaire was an online one, emailed to me.

She said she would email me. But it hasn’t come through. An as it’s the weekend and my app is at 9am on Monday doesn’t look like I will get one. Ugh

These are the sheets they use and should have emailed you. You score yourself based on the last two weeks. They also ask you to rate your likelihood of suicide on a scale of one to ten. Other than that you just talk through what the problems are.

I didn’t receive a questionnaire before my call. I was called by a mental health practitioner. I had to answer lots of questions on a scale from 1-10. It was kind of in sections eg how you feel about social situations, how you feel about work, family life etc. There were also some more open questions such as ‘Have you ever been in a situation where you felt your life was in danger?’ - I could just answer yes or no. She asked for more detail if I felt I was able to give it but if I wasn’t able to talk about it, she accepted that fine. I was also asked if I was suicidal or at risk of harming myself.

The questions weren’t the same as the weekly questionnaire I filled it at therapy.

She rang back a few days later after consulting with someone, I’ve forgotten who, and said the recommendation was for high intensity CBT. I had to wait 6 months for it to start.
I was ultimately diagnosed with PTSD, GAD, panic disorder and social phobia. I’m feeling much better now, my therapist was very good.
I was nervous about the initial call too but it was fine.

Thanks for the information. It really helps

I was referred and the first appointment was simply to assess my suitability for CBT rather than it being to actually start any work; I was deemed unsuitable so then referred to a psychiatrist and psychologist for different work so can't help beyond that! It isn't anything to be afraid of (although feels like a big step) - just be honest and engage and hopefully you'll get the help that you need. Best of luck.
