Pay whilst staying away for work

I am thinking of applying for a part-time job. The pay rate is by the hour and isn't that great for the experience/skills they want. Part of the role involves being away overnight a few times a year. I'm not sure how this would work pay wise. Does anyone have experience of this? Should I expect travel time to be paid and all the hours over my normal working day hours? Thanks

It would depend very much on your contract. I think most pay accommodation but not over time

That's what I was thinking and that's what has happened in past positions where I've be salaried. The pay rate is quite low so if I factor in staying away for free I am working for nothing. My view is that if I working additional hours and away from home it should be paid if I am working on a part time basis. I'll just have to ask them if I get an interview.

I would ask after you've been offered the post :)

I’ve stayed away with work (although in a pretty well paid job, where they do expect a bit of unpaid overtime). I’ve never been paid when I’m not working, eg spending the evening in a hotel. I did used to get a daily allowance, which was supposed to be for dinner, but I used to get a sandwich from M&S and pocket the difference. Other places might ask for receipts though, so that wouldn’t work.
