Allergies and supermarkets

Really would like some change in this direction, as lots of products in supermarkets do not have full ingredient labels.

We fairly skip through the cereal aisle, as our allergy choice means little is suitable.
We avoid the deli, the bakery areas all due to poor labelling.

I think everyone should have the right to know what is in food not just people with allergies.

Might make them think a bit more about what is actually in their food. But most supermarket stuff comes from other suppliers, so the onus would lie there.

On a related note, after that Pret/Sesame tragedy, the 2 small sainsburys I pass on way to work stopped selling almond and choc/hazelnut croissants (with a note to say these are not being sold). The small tescos didn't, but that is beyond my office. Today, sanisburys are back to stocking them

Supermarkets have more power over the suppliers, and could enforce labelling if they wanted to, however the legal loophole means they only need to declare if asked / have it available.

Doesnt stop the issue of cross contamination but would help if an allergen is a deliberate ingredient.

We avoid pret now. and i am more vocal about asking in other shops for allergy info in places like gregs etc.

I am wheat and dairy free. I only buy food from the free from aisle that have it written on the box.
The same goes for places like costa. Will only have it if it is labelled as such.
