What would I like for Christmas??

30birthdayholiday · 08/11/2018 11:44

Please help me think of something I might like for Christmas, for family members to buy me?

Budget around £50, but there are 3 people buying, so could combine together and make it £150ish.

I am a woman, 29, have a 1 year old girl.
Live in the country. Like clothes and shoes but am trying to lose baby weight before getting more clothes. Have outdoor boots already. Have too many shoes already.

Like kitchen things, but have lots already.

Have perfume, and I don't have time to read books etc.

Perhaps a meal out/experience day, but our wee girl would need someone to look after her, not sure if this would be suitable.

Can't keep plants alive, so no gardening things.

Not really into the "name a star/acre on the moon/Laird and Lady title" type gifts.

Love Cath Kidston/Emma Bridgwater spotty collection. I have asked my husband to get me a fluffy dressing gown and a new electric toothbrush.

Any ideas, thank you!!

Should have said I would like a handbag, but my bags just now are changing bags, so I might wait for a while until she's out of nappies before treating myself!

Candle? Chillys bottle? They have a couple Emma Bridgewater designs, I have the game birds one coming for Christmas. Decent slippers, fancy hot chocolate.

Ooohhhh, lovely suggestions, thank you. The bottle is a nice idea. I usually get given lots of candles, I don't like them much as I'm scared the baby will get near them.
I got nice Ugg boot type slippers last year and they are still going. I got a watch last year also.

Thank you for your reply.

Well, I was coming on here to say a fluffy dressing gown, but you've got that covered. How about some sheepskin slippers?
A really pretty patterned (to hide baby stains) loose shirt or sweater that you can keep wearing after you've lost weight. I think it helps massively to have nice clothes while you are feeling fat and frumpy, rather than live in maternity gear and wait to be thin again, which can be a bit demoralising.

How about some really good bath products - L'Occitane verbena set or Origins Ginger souffle - the kind of thing you wouldn't buy every day but is so nice to use after a long week looking after small people.

New gloves for pushing the buggy about in all weathers?

A set of Cath Kidston mugs for the inevitable coffee mornings?

Am loving these ideas, thank you. Will mention to family.

Have just been having a look at recipe/food boxes that get delivered, are these any good??
Maybe I could get a few months subscription to one of these to see how I like it?

You sound like you've got mostly everything you need op, so I don't think you can go wrong with some lovely cosy new pj's, I always get them in bigger sizes anyway as I prefer them loose. Or I believe boots no7 are doing a gift set that is £50 that should be a lot more.

30birthdayholiday · 08/11/2018 12:23

@bobstersmum

Yes I think you are right, throughout the year if I need something I just buy it, so come Christmas time there's nothing I 'need'!

Hence now my problem when other ask what to buy, I'm stuck for ideas.

Thank you everyone

I'd go for a voucher here if you like them, for a dept store as they will have lots of choice, you could get clothes as and when you lost the baby weight/ bag when you can be released from the changing bag or spend it bit by bit on some fancy food and drink

MorticiaAddamsIsMyStyleGuru · 08/11/2018 12:42

A bag!! Always a bag 😁

At least that's my standard response. Besides jewellery and make up that is 😂

Cath Kidson does some beautiful bags too. A nice cross body bag would be perfect and still allow you to deal with your wee one.

MorticiaAddamsIsMyStyleGuru · 08/11/2018 12:44

Apologies, should have read the full thread. My answer is still the same though. Your wee one will up before you know it and your bag can be used every day then.

Shamelessly place marking as you sound identical to me and I don't know what I want either!

IsThisSeeSawTaken · 09/11/2018 06:17

Cashmere shawl? They’re soft and cozy for walks with the baby, and also large enough as a little blanket when mooching around indoors. On a gentle wash machine setting they’re actually a breeze to care for, and they cover up all manner of sins outfit-wise. I like that something like this doesn’t ‘run out’ like a candle or beauty product so I don’t feel precious about using it only on special occasions!

Babbaganoush · 09/11/2018 06:26

A new leather purse? Or a Cath Kidston one?

BarbaraofSevillle · 09/11/2018 08:34

If you really can't think of anything, and generally buy for yourself as and when, why don't you agree to not exchange presents with these people, or stick to smaller, token consumable presents, rather than coming up with ideas for the sake of it?

If you have 3 people wanting to spend £50 on you, presumably you’re planning to spend a similar amount on them? So you’re trapped in a cycle to either have to exchange things people don’t want or need or come up with specific lists. What’s the point?

Either agree not to exchange gifts at all, or do token gifts. Eg I tell people that I like any sort of fizz or gin, or anything from Hotel Chocolat. They can then spend a few quid on a bottle of cava, or couple of selector packs, or they can spend more if they choose to.

HellonHeels · 09/11/2018 09:32

Now TV voucher

Roku stick + netflix subscription?

Voucher for cut and colour at nice salon (DH to do childcare)

Bottle of Bolly

Memory foam pillow

Large can farrow and ball paint to do living room (I'd LOVE this one!)

HellonHeels · 09/11/2018 09:33

I'd also love a donation to a smaller-scale animal welfare charity like Celia Hammond.

HellonHeels · 09/11/2018 09:34

If you like Emma Bridgewater, how about a tea pot? I've got a 'hearts' tea pot and it makes good tea Smile

Megan2018 · 09/11/2018 09:40

Flowers subscription like Bloom and Wild?
You only have to plonk in water :)
Fresh flowers always feel like a little luxury.

You'd need childcare, but a voucher for a facial or a massage is also lovely - a spa day takes a bit more organising. But if you could get childcare for an hour or two?

30birthdayholiday · 09/11/2018 20:48

Some great ideas, thank you everyone!
I have the spotty teapot already, in fact I have most of the spotty collection!

Yes a voucher for hair/spa might be nice, I feel like I could do with a pampering session.

I said a kindle voucher when my parents asked what I would like.
