Are gro clocks worth a go?

My son appears to have developed a fear of the dark, he's just over two, and at the moment we are using some white fairy lights in his room. These are fine and I am ok to stick with them for now. However, would a gro clock be worth a go? I was considering getting him one anyway after he started getting up early (I think this appears to have stopped) but now I am considering it as a night light and for him to learn getting up in the mornings and such.

Any feedback on them would be appreciated!

It was absolutely great for us when DC started waking early-she will still not get up before the sun 3 years on! However I would say as a nightlight it’s not that bright, maybe if you had it right next to bed it’d be ok. We have the ikea nightlight in the room as well as the gro clock.

You can adjust the brightness..
We have a gro light on the ceiling light, that can be adjusted too.

DD used to run in my room shouting "Its not orange yet, its still blueeee" Hmm

not sure about it as nightlight but it’s good for keeping them in bed longer.

I have a winnie the projecter that’s quite bright & noise activated so i often would hear dc1 clapping or shouting to make it start.

Apparently the only night light you should use is a red coloured one. Anything else can impact on sleep.

Agree with pp not sure about as a night light but our gro clock instantly stopped our early morning wake ups

It had a hugely positive impact for us!

We're using it as a nightlight - my son doesn't understand the concept of the orange sun - or if he does, he doesn't care. But he suddenly developed a fear of the dark a few months back, so we started using the clock as a nightlight.

It's also bright enough that if he needs to pee in the night I bring the potty in to him and he'll use it without me needing to put the main light on.

One of the things that's helped the most is having all the passage lights and his bedroom light off in the run up to bedtime with the nightlight on, so at bedtime I don't actually need to switch anything off - that seems to make all the difference as his eyes have already adjusted to that level, and he doesn't get upset. (Just means I have to do story time in a different room)

We don’t have one, but I’ve seen other posters say that their dc managed to work out how to change the settings so they could get up earlier Grin

We have one of the plug-in nightlights- £5 in Boots and gives a decent glow without being too bright. It turns on automatically when the room gets to a certain darkness, and it’s great not having to worry about wires or replacing batteries.

DS has had one since we took the sides down on his cot. Helped him grasp getting up time vs middle of night. Also provides sufficient glow for nocturnal bathroom trips, etc.
As for the colour of light - a meta analysis of all that blue light vs yellow light research found that the difference is pretty microscopic (though it does exist)

Thanks for your feedback all - I’ll give it a go and keep the fairy lights going if needed. Hopefully he’ll get the idea of it!

We got my son one of these as if he woke in the middle of the night he decided it was morning and that was that. It worked brilliantly. We don't use it as much
Now but use it at exciting times like Xmas morning. He knows if he wakes and the sun isn't on he has to go back to sleep. We only do this as otherwise he would be awake from 4am and refuse to go back to sleep. We aren't mean though. We do set the sun to come on between 6am
And 6:30am. Depending what time he got to sleep x
