I'm sorry?

Within USE BY date.

ThanksItHasPockets · 07/11/2018 21:08

As in, a lower age limit? I don’t think there is one. Supermarket sushi doesn’t contain raw fish (fresh sushi counters like those in some Waitroses do, though). The fish in the M&S sushi is all cured or smoked.

My ds has been cruising the conveyor belt at Yo Sushi since he was 7 months old.

PickleSarnie · 07/11/2018 21:16

Depends on whether you plan on washing it down with sake I guess

FunkyHeroCat · 07/11/2018 21:18

M+S sushi has always confused me because it contains no raw fish (it has a label saying so). So not sushi then.

ThanksItHasPockets · 07/11/2018 21:18

It is pretty salty, even without the soy sauce. The odd bit probably won’t do much harm.

Unicyclethief · 07/11/2018 21:20

Sushi isn’t raw fish though, that’s sashimi

slappinthebass · 07/11/2018 21:20

@FunkyHeroCat it actually a common misconception that sushi means raw fish.

FunkyHeroCat · 07/11/2018 21:20

But we don't have fish tapeworm to my knowledge in Northern Europe (happy for someone to tell me different) so fresh raw fish is fine anyway. My kids have loved Yo Sushi since they were toddlers, raw fish and all.

FunkyHeroCat · 07/11/2018 21:23

@slappinthebass - ahh, OK - what is it then specifically - sushi rice plus something else? I admit, I'm no expert, just an enthusiastic amateur Grin

FunkyHeroCat · 07/11/2018 21:25

@unicyclethief - isn't that just strips of raw fish on their own? Then nigiri sushi is strips of raw (or maybe not) fish with vinegared sushi rice?

ThanksItHasPockets · 07/11/2018 21:27

There are some fish which are at risk of parasites (eg wild Atlantic salmon) but under U.K. food hygiene laws fish which is to be served raw has to be flash-frozen first to kill them, with the exception of some farmed fish.

I think dd1 had it at about 8-9 months when she helped herself mine!!

Unicyclethief · 07/11/2018 21:32

Yes but many people believe that sushi must contain raw fish because they are getting mixed up with sashimi.

NotUmbongoUnchained · 07/11/2018 21:32

Why would there be an age limit on sushi?? My kids were weaned on maki rolls.

Sushi is just the rice

Sashimi is sliced raw fish

Then nigiri, maki, uramaki etc are ‘styles’ of rice + egg/raw fish/fish/veg
