Is this normal for UTI's?

The other week I posted about my DH and his UTI. He never did end up going back to the doctors after the clots thing (it never happened again and he's been fine since) but he's just gone down there now with another sample that they asked him to take in 'to make sure it was a UTI.' I've had several over the years and have never had to take a follow up sample in just to make sure that's what it was. Is this normal practise? I'm a bit concerned that they suspect something else.

I’m not 100% sure but they might be testing to make sure it has properly cleared up.
UTI’s in men are less common than in women and they may want to check his prostate just to be on the safe side.

Yes. I had it last year because my first sample did not show an infection. Neither did the second. I was told this could have been due to a contaminated first sample and second one taken after antibiotics had taken affect. However, as I had other symptoms in addition (pneumonia, felt rubbish) they did send me for many further tests just to be sure. All my further tests were clear. It was an exercise in due diligence to make sure they had checked all possibilities.

Good luck for his results!

UTIs are a lot more dangerous in men than they are women mostly due to anatomy and men can get quite ill from them plus they’re rare. It’s very normal practice in males, some doctors request this for females too depending on doctor and trust guidelines
