Is this the grossest thing ever?

I switched on the oven to warm up, opened the door and found Saturday's chicken carcass all warmed up. It's Wednesday today. That's 4 days it's been in there and I've had it in a hot oven!!!

What the fuck should I do with the oven?! The chicken is now outside.

Envy.

At least this didn't happen in warm weather (assuming you are in the UK)!

I think all you can do is clean your oven. In theory, when you next cook something fully, the temperature in your oven should rise enough to kill off any bacteria.

Whenever I can smell a bad smell in the house, it's always because I've left chicken to defrost above the boiler/in the microwave and decided to have a takeaway instead so forgotten about it.. The rotting smell usually takes two days to start.

I've got to go to work, so can't clean it (it's still hot). I've whacked it up really high and left it on for a little while to kill anything off. I'll have to clean it tomorrow.

We have an old integrated fridge that we don't use as we have a separate fridge-freezer. It usually just sits empty and switched off, but my husband for some reason once put a half-eaten salad in there. I discovered it two weeks later ... .

The heat will kill anything off so you'll be fine to clean it tomorrow.
