Can anyone advise me about my new contact lens prescription please?

I've worn contacts for over twenty years, moderately short sighted (-4.75 in both eyes but no change in prescription for about ten years)
I'm currently buying them from DaySoft at around £12 a month.
I've just had an eye test at Vision Express where I was told I have astigmatism in both eyes (the lens box says -0.75 and -1.25) and I've been given a free trial of a special lens for astigmatism- these will cost £39 a month which is a considerable hike.
The lenses make absolutely no difference, despite me trying them in a variety of different lights, distances etc. I appreciate that particularly with contacts you need to not cut corners, and I've recently changed jobs so I now spend a lot more time in front of a screen so had expected to have to make adjustments, but am I being taken for a ride and could I cause problems with my eyes later on if I don't wear the special astigmatism lenses?

That is very expensive. I have astigmatism in one eye so wear a toric lens to correct it and I find it does make a difference. I wear monthly disposables delivered free from Specsavers and it costs £12.50 a month on DD, for that I also get free eye tests and contact lens check plus discounted glasses every 2 years. I used to pay £10 but the toric adds another £2.50 extra a month. There are other costlier lenses and I have trialed many but I’m really happy with the basic ones, they are comfortable to wear.

You won’t do yourself harm by not wearing the astigmatic correction. If you don’t feel your vision is much different then go for the cheaper lenses. Astigmatism is quite funny how it affects people’s sight differently. Some people can tolerate it not being corrected, others really struggle. But there’s no harm to be caused by not correcting It I assure you.

Should have mentioned the £39 is for dailies, as is the £12 at DaySoft. As I'm under A/C for most of the day I would prefer to stick with dailies.

Thanks barley, in fairness I didn't even know what it is, let alone that I had it Grin
I was told the lenses would just sharpen my vision that little bit extra, which I was keen to try (though as I said I felt I already had perfect vision with my normal lenses)

If you don't see a difference with the astigmatism lenses; don't wear them.

I didn't initially, so didn't wear them for four or five years after I was initially told I needed them. The optician was fine with that because it made no difference to my sight. I now wear an astigmatism lens in one eye, as it does make a difference - the other is still so minimal that I don't need one.

Stick with your £12 for now!

I work for vision express. Your astigmatism is fairly mild and as it's better in one eye than the other, your better eye will compensate. Don't feel you have to pay those prices though. That sounds like it's a full 30 day supply of the most expensive toric lenses, there are much cheaper options.

Thank you dandy, they are the Accuvue ones which I know are expensive anyway.
The other slightly vexing thing is that it now means I have a left and a right set of lenses, for the first time in all my lens wearing life. Ridiculously this has annoyed me more than is actually appropriate Grin
