Amazon questions and "answers"

Seriously. Do you get some kind of Amazon credit for answering the customer questions? Why oh why is the answer to at least one in two questions "I don't know but...[insert answer to totally different question]" or "I don't know, I haven't taken it out the box yet", or "I don't know because I bought it for my third cousin four times removed and have no idea if they even received it but it looked like it worked even though I never opened the box", or "I don't know but my dog liked playing with the packaging" etc etc.

I know there are greater things to get annoyed by but... just WHY?!

It's because the questions are sent to past purchasers in an email that can appear like it's a personal email to just you. I think if you're not that familiar with amazon/internet etc it is easy to think you've been asked a direct question by the potential buyer, and also that you're replying just to them. So some of the answers come off 'trying to be polite/helpful when not being able to answer question'.

However I'm totally with you on 5* reviews where it becomes apparent they've not actually used/experienced the item themselves.

Particularly with baby products sooo many say 'just purchased this for little xxxx due in March, not taken it out of the box yet but it looks lovely - 5*' 🤦🏼‍♀️

Good question. Why go to the effort of leaving a message that says nothing at all? Bizarre.

And I treat negative reviews on Amazon with caution. I’ve found so many just to be whinging for the sake of it.

But nothing beats the oddness of YouTube comments. They’re terrifyingly stupid.

Longhairmightcare THANK you!! I never knew that and now I am so much less annoyed. It was driving me mad is it made absolutely no sense and now it does!

Same with the Q&As on TripAdvisor!

I like looking at the 4 and 2 reviews for things because they're less likely to be posted by someone with an agenda.
