Just WHY, DH???

Have just removed aforementioned steak knife from where it was embedded IN MY CALF after bastarding cat tripped me into the open dishwasher. There is blood everywhere and it hurts like buggery. So I’m off to get it stitched up and DH isn’t even answering his phone so I can tell him what a total ducking idiot he is!!!

Argh Angry.

No reason for this other than I need to vent my rage!

I'm shocked at how many of you put them in point up. It's so dangerous. I was really upset by that lady dying because of this and it stuck with me.

Our dishwasher has a cutlery draw at the top which you pull out like the other draws so it keeps sharp objects firmly hidden away - I love it!

Sorry for your injury OP - glad you're ok!

I'm shocked at how many PPs are more worried about damaging their dishwasher plastic bits than serious knife-related accidents
I've ALWAYS stored mine blade-down in my 19 years of using a dishwasher. No accidents, no ruined dishwashers

I am obsessed with controlling the cutlery basket....when I am Queen hurling cutlery randomly into the basket will be a capital offence.

We have eight sections (2x4)....two are shallower, thus making them ideal for teaspoons, you may choose either for the teaspoons.

The other three central may be chosen as you please for knives (point DOWN!) , forks and spoons (tablespoons, soup spoons, breakfast spoons may mingle, it's not like I am a dictator.

This leaves two at either end for other kitchen utensils....the tall ones MUST go at one end (NOT both ends dh! Angry ) then if the basket is oriented with them at the wall side of the dishwasher it means they won't snag the whirly arm, the two at the centre can be for peelers, zesters, random other things.

Having said that, I never put the basket in until I am ready to set the dishwasher going...it sits nicely in the half sink and is much easier to fling a teaspoon in rather than open the door, pull out the tray and then fling it in

I hope your dh is suitably horrified at his actions and put him on a warning for when I am Queen we shall make and example of people like this.

steak knives (and other sharp knives) need to be hand washed or they become blunt.

Points up in this house, they don’t get thoroughly cleaned if the points are down. Same for forks and spoons. I want the mouth end to be more thoroughly washed and rinsed than the handles.

This has been an ongoing dispute with adult DD who is back home after uni and prefers points down for safety reasons. Until reading this thread I thought that people injuring themselves on knives in the dishwasher was an urban myth like alligators in sewers.

I will continue points up but will be more vigilant about keeping the dishwasher shut from now on.

FekkoThePenguin · 07/11/2018 09:03

We have a tray on the top shelf for knives.

DullBrianfromHull · 07/11/2018 09:07

Im very careful with this, in case one of us trips. Its not rare.

JustJoinedRightNow · 07/11/2018 09:49

God OP that is terrible! I hope you’re ok!

My MIL did this with steak knives she, my DH and FIL used at our place (I’m vegetarian so the irony wasn’t lost on me) I stabbed my hand - loading the rest of the plates in after she put the cutlery in. It’s seriously one of the stupidest things I’ve ever seen anyone do.

CrispbuttyNo1 · 07/11/2018 11:18

Points down always. Or flat on the top bit, but never points up.

ErolTheDragon That’s a good price for a fully integrated dishwasher.

AlexaAmbidextra · 08/11/2018 02:17

Why did you leave it open to fall into?confused

Well, obviously to give the cat a sporting chance at killing her. 🙄. Perhaps she was unloading it.
