Best way to help sore ear piercings

11 year old dd had her ears pierced (with a needle) about 6 months ago. They seemed to heal well but lately they have been very sore.

We've changed the original earrings and she's wearing hypoallergenic studs. She has to take them out for PE twice a week and they really hurt her going putting them back in.

There's no pus and the ear isn't hot or red, but she keeps getting these crusty bits at the back and a small slightly red lump underneath.

What's the best thing to do?

What type of metal is it? Even hypoallergenic can be an allergen (trust me anything with hypoallergenic in the title makes me.react). A crushed up qsprin with a bit of water to form a paste helped with mine after a few days. If not and theres still a fleshy lump fucidin from the dr helps.

I’ve had issues getting needled piercings to heal but I am an allergic sort of person! I’m 4 months on from a piercing which still gets manky from time to time.

I’d try to get her a titanium earring - surgical grade titanium is the least likely to cause any reaction even over and above silver/gold/surgical steel. And I’d probably look at getting a labret type with a flat back. She is less likely to have issues lying on her ears at night with one and also the stick bit tends to be longer so there is room for the oddbit of swelling. Something like this? www.piercedandmodified.co.uk/tiny-clear-gem-internally-threaded-labret-1mm-show-5597.html?gclid=EAIaIQobChMIpu69qdq_3gIVhLHtCh3gKQjeEAQYAiABEgIsxfD_BwE&gclid=EAIaIQobChMIpu69qdq_3gIVhLHtCh3gKQjeEAQYAiABEgIsxfD_BwE

I should say I’m not sure if that’s titanium but you get the idea - you can get them and they aren’t expensive!

Thank you, just wondering if the screw back will be fiddly for taking on and off...?

We've tried salt water but dd says it stings (she has a very low pain threshold).

We do have some fucidin cream at home, maybe I'll try that.

Just checked the earrings she has - they are surgical steel, any good or not?

Prontolind spray from amazon is very very good, think it’s about £6

The screw isn’t at the back it’s at the front and surprisingly unfiddly but she may well need help. Once it’s in you need to leave it in, barr PE. She could sleep with it in perfectly well. I agree with the spray too. Saline. It keeps the piercing really clean and seems to speed up full healing.
