.....but you're waiting to hear about a job you want more and won't hear til Friday, would you-
A) Accept the first job and tell them you've changed your mind if you bet the second one
B) Turn down the first job and risk not getting the second
C. Accept the first and pull out of the process for the second (down to final interview with one other candidate)

A. The terms, pay, start date of the second job, if it's offered, might not be what she wants anyway.

DowntonCrabby · 06/11/2018 10:56

A

needsanewname · 06/11/2018 10:57

A.

I would also be concerned about working for a company who wasn't prepared to give a few days for such a decision. Also, I'd be wary about how desperate they are for her to start - is it because of high staff turnover?

witchmountain · 06/11/2018 11:01

A. I understand her reservations but she needs to remember that if there were any change to the business situation that offer would be withdrawn like a shot (or if she had started then the job could disappear) - it is a business transaction and that has to work both ways!

PinkHeart5914 · 06/11/2018 11:13

A!

Yes it pisses people off but 🤷🏻‍♀️ What else can you do

amusedbush · 06/11/2018 12:36

A. It's not ideal but if they are going to be so inflexible then fuck them. Everyone has to do what's best for them, when it comes down to it.

halfwitpicker · 06/11/2018 12:37

A.

BertrandRussell · 06/11/2018 13:03

Thank you everyone-she's going for A now she knows it's not just me who thinks it's OK! Fingers crossed now for the job she really wants.....

Good stuff.

Angeladelight · 06/11/2018 13:05

Definitely A. It’s not great but it does happen and the company will move on if she drops out! No negative repercussions but if she were to apply there again they may be a bit hesitant.

HannahnotAgnes · 06/11/2018 13:08

Agree with the others re A - just get her to hang fire on actually signing the contract until she's heard from the other job (unless by accepting you actually mean signing the contract & not just verbally saying yes).

BertrandRussell · 06/11/2018 17:28

It's worse than waiting for A level results!

A most definitely, it's dog eat dog out there.
Good luck with the one you really want.

people do this all the time, lots show up first day and are never seen again.

BertrandRussell · 06/11/2018 17:42

I can’t hear “it’s a dog eat dog world” without remembering Gloria from Modern Family thinking it was “it’s a doggy dog world” and a therefore a wonderful thing.........Grin

Teaching jobs in England are always like this. Doing A would be regarded as breach of contract! Every where else should allow you chance to consider.

BertrandRussell · 11/11/2018 12:10

Just thought I’d come back and tell you that she did A, then got the second job!

She emailed the other job (too scared to ring!) and got a lovely reply saying they quite understood, wishing her well and thata lot of people would have just not turned up on Monday, so thanking her for telling them.

So all’s well. Thank you all.
