Does this piece of furniture exist?

I need to redo my sons room. He’s 8, so the only items of clothes he hangs up or needs to are smart shirts. I can’t see this ever changing as he gets older. Even my husband only hangs shirts, possibly some trousers. Everything else is folded in drawers and on shelves.
Anyway, DS room is fairly small. Not enough room for a wardrobe and a chest of drawers He really needs the drawer space, but I’d like a small area where he can hang. All the furniture I’ve seen are full sized wardrobes with 1 or 2 drawers underneath. What I would really like is 4 or 5 drawers and a small, half space for hanging. Or even a small cupboard type wardrobe that can go on the floor next to the chest of drawers. I have searched the internet tirelessly and haven’t found anything. I want to avoid typical “children’s” furniture.
Can anyone help?!?! I’m actually considering seeing if a carpenter can make me a custom made freestanding item of furniture because I’m at a loss. But that seems an excessive amount of ££ to spend for a kids room....
Thank you!

The Hemnes or Tjusig hat rack from Ikea would be ideal.

I love this... but it's a New Zealand brand. Meluka.

If it’s just a few shirts couldn’t you hang them in your own wardrobe?

I was going to suggest Ikea Stuva, you can put as many drawers in it as you like. Loads if you have the tall one, or just a few with the short one and it has matching chests of drawers. You can use drawer fronts visible from the outside in which case you're limited by the length of the doors, or you can use internal wire basket drawers which you are unlimited on.

I have them for each of my kids as they're so versatile, they don't look kiddish and can be easily changed according to need.

You can get normal wardrobe (two door) sized drawers for Pax. I have two in the bottom of mine. They are very deep but pull right out so you can double up the amount you put in. Like having four drawers in one.

*four drawers in two

Have you double checked the pax dimensions, they used to come in 2 depths. We had one for my daughter with the top half a hanging rail, then a slim drawer, then 3 or 4 sliding baskets (loads of room in these). We had a mirror front too which was great. When we got rid of this we had a custom made bed, we could have had a good amount of drawers under this.

can't you just use drawers and put his shirts in your wardrobe?

We have the Ikea sniglar wardrobe, it's ace. The boxes are the same size as the Kallax unit which means they have loads of storage options for them like draws, shelves etc.

You'll be able to get a 'gentlemans wardrobe' on eBay for well under £100 which has drawers and a small hanging area. If it's further afield you can use anyvan to arrange a courier, they are always very reasonably priced.

This one looks good www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Vintage-retro-antique-Art-Deco-1920s-Gentlemans-Wardrobe/264012418887?hash=item3d785dcf47:g:2twAAOSwXmpb1tUy

Pax comes in different depths, heights and widths and you can have drawers going the full way across or not. I have two narrow ones next to one another as I only wanted a hanging rail on one side, the rest is drawers.

HoustonBess · 05/11/2018 11:11

Do you have a wardrobe yourself? If it's only a few shirts, can't you hang them in your room, or put a hook or two into the wall or side of a bit of furniture and hang the shirts, maybe with dust covers on.
If I were you though, I'd just keep the shirts folded and iron them when needed. You only really need to keep shirts on hangers when they're going to be used in the near future and you don't want to iron them again, no?
Also if you get polycotton shirts they should take much less ironing.

Thanks all for the links/ suggestions etc.
The drawers all seem to be too small on the pinks , I’d really like full length drawers, so I think I’ll check out ikea again. Pax and stuva. I didn’t know you could get full length drawers. I suppose I could just hang his shirts in a different room, that’s fine when he’s 8 though, not when he’s 16?! I hadn’t considered a rail on the wall....

If those links had had hanging bit on top and long drawers underneath it would have been perfect.

as others have said - a gentlemens wardrobe off e-bay. OR a local shop may make you chest type of thing that has hanging at the bottom, behind doors and long drawers above. I have had these made for around £300 at local pine/oak type workshops.
